in your opinion what are the most dependable trucks on the road and why?
I own a black 2006 Short-bed Ford F150 XLT 4x4 Supercrew with the Triton 5.4 Liter V8. The truck looks and runs perfect. There's a reason that the Ford F150 outsells every other vehicle in the US...not just trucks.

Ive owned a lot of trucks. Right now I am partial to the Fords. The new 6.7 diesel is impressive. Chevy's are a close second. The maker who starts with a "D" is not to be discussed in my presence.

I will not buy foreign vehicles. (KTM Motorcylcles are the exception)

I hope all these negative Dodge comments are BS, I just bought a 2013 Dodge ram 1500 Laramie loaded to the gills and am loving it so far, course I only have 2k miles on it so far.

My Dodge has been the most trouble free truck I have ever owned, just turned 190K The BigHorn option that has the Posi rear makes this truck just about unstoppable in the snow, and I wish a had a dollar for every other brand truck I pulled out of the fields with it the last four years

heck 2 years ago I even pulled a Hummer out of the snow with it

No new truck is going to not give you issues or be better then the others when you think about it, Toyota's are great yea but stay away from the I force v8's in tundras, gotta worry about timin belt and horrible fuel milage, Lexus designed that motor so it's a jap mess of electronics and over engineering, ford is my favorite brand truck because rust isn't really am issue in new trucks, the from ends are best of all the trucks but the ford diesels are another story, I'm a diesel mechanic and hate what does did to the diesel market although the EPA and emmision issues kick started it, now with all the diesels out there the average home owner can't work on there truck at home so diesels are becoming more impractical as an every day truck because of computers and emmisions, I had 2 older cummins diesels in dodge and they were great but the new ones, no way, not unless you own a shop or bring your diesel trucks I the dealer for service. As far as GM goes, I'm not a fan of the Fromt ends, they are weak, you can say all you want about Allison transmissions but there just a name and aren't anything special, dodge trucks rot out and have terrible Fromt ends also. Gotta ask yourself what is the lesser evils and what deal you can get on what truck, GM may have better cup holders ect. Let something you notice that's simple like that decide, cost of ownership is about the same with all of them for the most part.

I have driven Dodge, International , Ford ,& Chevy , trucks, For what these vehicles cost I don't think they make a truck today that last long enough for me to get my moneys worth out of it. So until they make something better they are all junk to me .

Had a Chevy and put 121,000 miles on her but she always had AC and electrical issues. Now she is somebody else' problem!!

Have a Tundra now and it's absolutely the best driving truck I've ever driven and owned!!!

Based on the AMI (American Made Index) the top 3 trucks with contents made in America/Canada are:

1) Ford F-150 75%
1) Honda Ridgeline 75%
2) Toyota Tundra 75%

^^ Honda Ridgeline? That's shocking!
If you don't need a full size truck a tocoma or a frontier is perfect,I have a frontier as a work truck and it has 290k on it with no major issues, just maintenance and I had to rebuild the rear a few thousand miles ago. You can also look for a ranger/mazda b truck. They stopped making them recently but you can find one used. I love my b series truck and I'm saying that after owning 2 diesels, a Tacoma, a bunch if jeeps, and a bronco.

I have a 2000 Chevy Silverado 4x4 with the 4.8L V-8. I just hit 221K on it today. I have owned it since June 2004, I bought the truck with 38K on it. Other than maintenance and brakes, I have had to replace the alternator, fuel pump, transmission at 135K, both hub bearing assemblies, one brake caliper, spider gears in the rear differential, and the drivers side CV shaft assembly for the four wheel drive. All which I do not think is to bad for a truck of its age and milage. The truck has also seen alot of dirt and mud in the pines. I have never had to get the truck towed, even broken I was able to limp home.

My next full size truck will be another Chevy.

my 98 f150 5.4l 4x4 single cab long bed was a great truck...I bought it used in 2001 with 26k on it...when I sold it in 2006 the truck had 220k...I set it up to tow well with 35" tires...I put this truck to work and in return made me a lot of money and towed my 14ft-22ft enclosed trailers loaded with quads up and down the east coast with no real issues..my alternator crapped out twice because of the tv ps2 and stereo system but a new 140 amp alt. did the trick...my blinker switch, exhaust manifold ,2 problems with coil pack a stripped out spark plug hole, and 1 of the 4 cats went bad...every thing else that was replaced was from me customizing it..at 140k I had the front end over hauled and new univ. put in along with good brakes and rear air bags for my first road trip to mt. morris pa with the 22ft trailer loaded...truck didn't owe me a dime...ahhhh single life...lol...in fact the guy I sold it to had used it to landscape/plow with for a few years making him money too..my 2007 f150 is mainly stock and so far has been a decent truck but I had to replace the headers at 70k... its half the truck that my old truck was...not sure if I would buy another...may give gmc 2500 a try...have had some bad luck with dodges...most of the other work trucks I have used have been fords and have been put to the test time and time again and rot out before they break down beyond repair....so far ima ford fan but wanna give gmc a try.

I’ve owned A Toyota 4x4, 4runner, sequoia, land cruiser, 4 Camry’s and a Lexus… None of them has ever left me stranded anywhere and none have ever needed any major repair work and I treat them like dirt… My land cruiser is 6 years old, still looks new and runs as good as the day I bought it. 180,000 miles and still cruising...[smoke]

I presently have a 2008 Tundra (108,000 miles), great truck but it's tough on gas. I believe Toyotas are the only truck 100% made in the US. Previously I've owned Tacomas and no problems. I bought a 2002 (first year) Dodge Ram Quad and loved everything about it until at 130,000 miles the head casket went on Rt. 78 and cooked the engine. A buddy of mine has a Ford F-250 and he has a lot of problems with it, the wheel wells rusted out. My neighbor has a Ford F-250 Diesel that he says has it's own frequent flyer bay in the shop.
