WESTWOOD -- A nine-year member of the Westwood Fire Department serving in Afghanistan that was scheduled to return home in May was killed in action Thursday, a report on NorthJersey.com said.
Sgt. Christopher Hrbek, 25, was serving with the Marine Corps when he stepped on an IED in the Hamal province, according to the report. A 2002 graduate of Westwood High School, Hrbek was due to receive a bronze star for saving the life of his sergeant major who stepped on an IED last month. Hrbek was planning to become a drill instructor in the Marines.
Prayers go out to his family.
