Seeing the picture of the beautiful couple at a much happier time crushes the heart inside me. As I've spent the day suprising my wife with this and that for her birthday, it is painful to know that he gave it up for us and sacrificed himself for the things that I enjoyed today with my family. I am truly saddened by this news and offer my deepest condolences to his wife and family. May he walk tall and proud along side his maker. God bless

Thanks everyone for the thoughts and prayers for the difficult time his family is going through. The support being given by the community is showing what kind of a man, friend, snd soldier he's was. With all the grieving it supports all of us who have been touched by him and will make sure that he won't be forgotten.

I want to thank his family for their sacrafice as well. I know its a devastating loss and my prayers are with his family, but they should look beyond their gief and find pride in the sacrifice they've made and that their loved one did his duty to the end.

WESTWOOD -- A nine-year member of the Westwood Fire Department serving in Afghanistan that was scheduled to return home in May was killed in action Thursday, a report on NorthJersey.com said.

Sgt. Christopher Hrbek, 25, was serving with the Marine Corps when he stepped on an IED in the Hamal province, according to the report. A 2002 graduate of Westwood High School, Hrbek was due to receive a bronze star for saving the life of his sergeant major who stepped on an IED last month. Hrbek was planning to become a drill instructor in the Marines.

Prayers go out to his family. :(
