Use the equipment you have the most confidence with. Practice during the off season months and get to know YOUR limitations as well as your equipment( if you plan to make changes now is the time not two weeks before the season). Check ALL your gear before each hunt with extra emphasis on broad head sharpness( just because the package says its razor sharp doesn't make it so) Practice a shot regiment so you don't choke in the heat of battle. Black bears are not hard to kill but, a bad shot is still a bad shot and will make for a less then favorable day for everyone.

Don't believe everything you read. A 100 pound cub will lump you up faster then you think. Just try getting one out of a snare, some fun stuff.
most bear activity is in the afternoons which means you could very well be tracking a wounded bear with a bow at night possibly by your self. I personally would not want to walk up on a bear in the dark that has not expired. Ever been on a guided bear hunt? The guys Ive hunted with track with guns

There are no tests/studies that show mechanical BH's non-recovery rate is any different than fixed. In fact I saw a study that showed mechanicals had a slightly better recovery rate. Use what you like for whatever reason. I've used both for many years and see no difference.
