I cant link to kens photoBucket account. But if you look at the size of the mergs in the photo on the back of the marsh boat or the photos of ken holding them you will realize they are twice the size of a hoodie. Hoodies are similar in size to buffies.

Swampy is wrong and has no proof other than a skank photo of a hoodie he pulled off the net and even that bird is half the size of kens RB mergs.

Sorry but you're wrong. Hooded Mergansers are NOT the same size as a bufflehead, they are larger, yet considerably smaller than a Red Breasted. Those Mergansers are without a doubt, 100% for certain, Hooded Mergansers. The color of the feet, the bills and the head/breast are a dead give away.

I think some of you need to study a bit more about duck identification. And btw, Swampy is a biologist, I think the guy knows the difference between a Hooded merganser and a Red Breasted. [rofl]

Oh they are Red breasted's now??

The pic is CLEAR and OBVIOUS to anyone that has duck hunted more then a year

Watch BOTH videos, first they sky bust a duck that they can't ID(listen to what they say)

second they almost smoke a king fisher

and third...after they shoot into a flock of "buffies" You hear someone (who I assume is Ken) SHOUT THEY ARE HOODED MERGANSERS!(when he goes to pick them up)(2:40 of the 1st video)

I said all I'm gonna say on this subject, KEN admitted his mistake..He knows that they are hooded mergansers...

never knew you could get in trouble for almost shooting something, also when no shots were fired..so if someone raises their gun at a doe, thinking it is a buck, they can get ticketed? that must be new [rofl]

next time a RB comes in I will take one and compare it to kens pics. I hate to wrong as much as anyone else, but in this case Im willing to put my $$ where my mouth is. Kens birds are too big to be be hoodies anyway.

I'll be dammed. Your photo confirms the size of all three and I was wrong about kens birds. I usually let em in and out of the decoys because even the dog gets sick when he eats em. I cant hold up my end of the deal on the check, but I'll have you out on the bay for a layout if your ever interested.

The real question is - what the hell do you all do with them nasty eatin birds? [rofl] I haven't shot a merganser yet this year, although I've been tempted just to get the dog a retrieve. But I don't even want to put them in my freezer to use as a spring training bird.

I'm on this site everyday, I don't post much because of all the b.s. But I want to say good job Ken and swampy is a a-hole. If you visit this site often you would know Ken is a true sportsman and did not need to be called out on a public forum. If in fact he did do something wrong a pm would of been the way to handle it. just my opinion
