Nightstalker, have you had any issues with deer jumping the string when shot with your crossbow?
Not ACTUALLY jumping the string , but "Duckin". What happens is that with the "louder" bows the shot has hit a little high because they have started to bend their legs to get ready to jump. I've since just started to aim for a "HIGH" heart shot. If they duck a little, I've still 5X'd the lungs.

I shoot a 10 pt and added the silencer pkg. It is quiter but will never be silent. Good news never had a string jumper. Most deer fall within 30 yards.:D No dragging up the ridge:D Good to 40 on the first 10 deer. Ask me again next winter:D

Same here RRay, maybe just a tad more deer though!

That was the point I was trying to make. At the speeds from 325fps and up, these crossbows are too fast for the "ducking" to affect the shot placement enough to cause a wound instead of a kill.
Nightstalker, what is your fps. and average yardage you've been shooting your deer at?

I've personally seen a Barnett fail while I was taking my test for bow. I had heard very bad, almost life threatening stories about them in person and on the internet. I took it with a grain of salt, some people just argue because they're angry. But, this was actually scary.

I really disagree with the statement that quiet counts.

The whole point of bow hunting is to get closer than the average hunter, because it's a much more thrilling and memorable experience. 2011 is my first year of hunting, and I've gotten so close to deer that I could have jumped out of my blind and tackled them. So close that the loud noise & fps of a crossbow wouldn't matter.

I mean, those things matter when your aiming 40-50 yards away. But if you are, I personally think you should be looking into a firearm.

I also disagree with the crossbow stigma.

Glad to hear from some people who have had real life experiences with the Barnett, rather than those based on heresay. More and more I am leaning toward the Vision, although I obviously want to test as many as I can. Like I said before though, I just see the balance of the Vision being so much of an advantage. I also don't really intend on taking too many shots out past 30 yards, not saying it will never happen, but a most of the spots I hunt, you are lucky if can get a 40 yard shot.

TR welcome aboard! I shoot an Excalibur Pheonix recurve style-bout $650 from Cabela's-I went with the recurve style for simplicity factor-these things are same thing they used hundred of years ago in the Medievel times of Robin Hood. I dry fired it once (knucklehead me forgot to put a bolt in it) and the string flew off and I couldnt find it, luckily I had an extra string, I re strung it in the woods and got my afternoon hunt in.

My bro, Deernutz on here, shoots a Parker Tornado. And my dad shoots a Ten Point-known for the best trigger for crossbows. We live in TR and can show you these different crossbows if u ever wana check em out, heck, u can try shootin em too.

Prob guna give mine to my son in two years wen he gets his license and Im guna go back to a compound bow, but the xbow is def a fun and effective deer killing weapon!

Bonefreak thanks a lot man, I appreciate your offer. And also since you brought it up, for the record I in no way intend on substituting bowhunting with crossbow hunting. What I like about crossbow hunting is that it's another form of hunting, but I love to bowhunt and still would primarily hunt with the compound.
