Interesting... What permits do you need? The standard rifle/muzzleloader and then the special coyote one?

Yes, if you are legal to use a rifle in NJ you need the rifle permit then the $2.00 "special season" permit for fox and yotes.
Jerseyfirefighter, I'm all for people getting exited and the use of rifles seems to be bringing a lot of interest in hunting which is a good thing. The more interest and participation ensures the future of out sport, the regs for this season are pretty clear I just hope people are safe and follow the regs to insure this season stays around. The AR's are great for hunting, I built mine specifically for coyotes but I also have a H&R .243 I will be taking out, at least that rifle isn't a "evil black assault rifle"

In the delusional mind of the anti-hunter and average Democrat they're ALL evil black assault rifles.

Or shotgun with #4 shot or larger... The special permit seems to be for night time hunting only. Is that when it all happens? or is it possible during the day also?

I hear the best times during the day are half hour after sunrise and half hour before sunset, I noticed a lot of coyote activity while deer hunting at this times also. I have seen fox mid mornings walking around but I have a feeling I'm going to be sitting with my rifle a while without any luck but then again I have never ran a call during the day before to see who and how anything reacts.
Night time with the shotgun is another story, it's pretty intense.

Thanks for posting the lowest shot size. I knew there was a limitation in the regs but was on the toilet and couldn't grab my digest.

I did read somewhere you can use the clip but limited to 3 rounds, I am trying to find out what it means for stand hunting,is that tree stand or only allowed to walk around and still hunt,I thought you coundnt use a tree stand or a seat, and hunter orange not required, rules are confusing on this one for sure lol

Thanks for posting the lowest shot size. I knew there was a limitation in the regs but was on the toilet and couldn't grab my digest.
The shot sizes are a little confusing... from reading the digest it's larger than #4 fine and no larger than...

- #4 buck ½ hour before sunrise to ½ hour after sunset
- T ½ hour after sunset to ½ hour before sunrise

So 4 during the day, T over night.

I emailed the DFW on this point a few weeks ago because it was so confusing. But, once I got the response and I stared at the table on page 62 harder, it made sense.

Read and study page 62 and after a few magical incantations and sacrificing of small animals, you'll come to a state of enlightenment and understand it. :ko:

In short, you don't need a special yote/fox permit IF you are going to hunt them during the day using shotgun using #4 fine or smaller - in effect, without a special permit, you are hunting them under the "Small Game" regulations as normal.

However, you need a special yote/fox permit if you:
* want to hunt with a rifle (rifle only during the day! with special ammo restrictions, see page 62)
* or want to hunt at night (night is with shotgun only - and only with #4 fine through T)
* or want to hunt with shotgun during day with something larger than #4 fine - specifically must be between BB and #4 buck

I don't think NJ could have made it much more complicated if they tried (but I wouldn't put it past them :) )
