I think I will just need to by both O/U and semi and put them thru extensive field trials. As long as I don't buy guns with fixed chokes I won't be limited as to what I can shoot with them.

IMHO, I hate the idea of shooting deer with a 12ga. Like using a 30/30 on a mouse. If I could I'd use a .410 slug but since NJ in it's infinite wisdom forbids it 20ga with rifled barrel is my gun. That said I would not be buying this or these shotguns for deer. Hell, that said I'd rather use a 20ga for upland too.

I have a 12 gauge Charles Daly automatic in Matte Black with composite stock that I like alot. I picked it up in January and have not shot it much but I did very well with it shooting trap a couple of weeks ago. The thing is as smooth as silk and has no recoil whatsoever. I think it goes for a bit under $400 new. I would definitely recommend checking it out

Just remember you pay what you get w/ semi's you have to pay $$$ if you want a flawless gun. There is nothing worse then a gun jamming. I have personally tried some of the semi's mentioned above in harsh waterfowl conditions and they did not perform well. The only two I recommend are the SBE & Extrema.

A lot of these guns make great deer guns do to the fact that just about any semi will cycle a deer slug or buck shot. But some guns have a hard time cycling waterfowl loads.

Just remember if you want a semi-auto to perform well day in and day out keep it clean don't let it gum up.

I had to go to an un-named sporting goods store and thought I'd check out a couple of guns. I looked at both the Extrema 2 from Beretta and the SBE by Benelli. I didn't know they were under the same corp. Anyway, both wer in the matte black and composite stock. Very tactical looking guns...ugly guns but probably very practical in a waterfowl hunting scenario.

The SBE is definitely a much lighter gun but a little uglier. I did not want to like the Benelli as it is an extra 3-4 hundred more. Over all both guns felt good going to the shoulder with one being much lighter. Both chamber for 2 3/4-3 1/2" shells.

For those with Browning or Remington semi's do you have any issues with them failing in the field. Not the upland field or the deer field but the crappy muddy lillypad fields.

FWIW, I do take care of my firearms not putting them away wet or dirty.

over and unders are nice but you only get two shots ,dont get me wrong I love my o/u's but there is a place for them ,I dont like them for waterfowl or deer I want the third shot .I shoot the super black eagle 1 it is the fastest gun I ever shot ,it is alot lighter than most guns ,and there is hardly any recoil for a 3.5 inch gun
well I've killed more deer with my 3" O/U than my pump or my auto...if youre aiming at your deer and shooting when u have a shot only then youll get him, if youre just shooting willy nilly then yes u need all the extra shots and lenght,,,

I go back to, if it's only going to be a waterfowl gun, look at the Browning BPS 10 ga. Won't beat you up as some of the 3.5" 12 ga's will and will deliver plenty of shot for any duck or goose. [up]

could see myself with a black mat finish with composite stock if they weren't too spaceage
Semi-auto
Winchester SuperX3...this is an awesome gun. Its a classic look, doesnt look like its a laser gun or anything like that. I have the black matt finsh with the composite stock. It shoots 3 1/2 in shells, and is just a really nice afffordable gun[up]
