crossbows havent flown of the shelves since nj had implemation last yr..good made up story though ..did you write that one?

exactly my point. it just so happens the day he's there they are flying off the shelves[eyeroll] and cabelas isnt a mom and pop store neither;)

i like what DROP TINE had to say,as for me when i'm hunting with my cross bow in my area i couldn't care less if the next guy used a gun or what ever weapon. Why do so many people care about some one wanting to hunt with a cross bow because they are not putting a crimp on your style of hunting.

My son is using a crossbow, but i'm still with the compound-once I score my buck I'll switch to the recurve and try again to score my first trad deer.

But I must say the X-bow is tempting given its accuracy at range with magnification on the site(scoped), Also the notion of shooting without any significant movement is also tempting.

About 2 weeks ago, I had a close encounter with a 7 point that I would have been happy to tag. But he busted me on my draw and was gone. If I had an xbow-that deer likley would have been wearing my tag. I also think back last year to a dandy 10 pointer that passed me at 46 yards. He was sticking with a hot doe, and wouldn't leave her for all the calling in the world. I know my brother in law has his X-bow sited at 50 yards dead on. He dings the 10 ring every time at the range. On a good day for me with loads of shooting, a 50 yard shot is only 80% on the money.(a few years ago, I was shooting 100% at 60 yards-but I shot for hours daily then) Hence I wasn't going to loose the arrow, and that buck walked out of my life for good. I can't help to think that if I had my BIL's X-bow I may have tagged that buck too??

Just saying that it's not for me-not now, but I may re-think that if I keep having these just out of range opportunities[smirk]

I picked up a Parker Buck-Buster HP 175, going to be my winter bow weapon, don't think I will use it out of a tree, but should be great in a blind...[up]

Still use my Ross and will till I can't anymore, my joints hurt at times, right elbow and shoulder and left hip, Dr says it's Osteoarthritis...[spy]

Not sure how fast I can get a pin on a deer at 8 or 9 yards, I like my Ross for tree hunting, it's all new to me...

Congrats Rich, I know a few guys that use the same crossbow and love it, I started out with my Parker as a winter bow weapon, this year it's with me more then not ;) Fun too shoot and hunt with, and when the time come to let one fly, believe me the adrenalin rush is no different then any other bow. GOOD LUCK & ENJOY BRO [up][up]

Just want to add I don't see it as making a SWITCH, but just a opportunity of adding another weapon to my deer hunting arsenal, I love my bows and BOW HUNTING and believe me I would fight to the death to protect my and your right to hunt with them ALL and that now includes my crossbow too ;)

Paul, am glad to see you feel this way now. It is the "right" that is part of the bigger picture to help preserve hunting by getting more hunters interested and also keeping others out there. Continued good luck with whichever bow/weapon you choose to hunt with.[up][up] ;)

Thanks you Kay, once again just for the record though I was never against Crossbows or Crossbow Hunting ;)

I feel the same way now as I did then about then, that the Crossbow it self is an Excellent Weapon for Hunting [up]

My stance "pre-crossbow incursion" was that they should have a tighter safety qualification, and I did not support there use in pre and fall bow seasons but thought there should have been a separate crossbow season that could run concurrent with the permit and winter bow seasons.

Since the game code has been past and amended to include them as a bow for use in all bow seasons and giving the opportunity to actually get out an shoot and hunt with one for myself, my opinion on them has changed in regards to the fact that other then not having to draw it back before the shot I personally find no real difference or superior advantage to shooting or hunting with one over my DXT, WELL OTHER THEN IT'S A LOT EASIER ON THE UPPER BODY TOO [up] so at this point I can honestly say I no longer see any valid reason for me to not support there use as a hunting weapon in all seasons.

That is just my personal growth and opinion, I can only speak for myself based on my experience so far :D

well after have 2 surgeries on my right shoulder reluctantly bought a cross bow after trying to use sons compound even with draw weight down to 30 lbs cant even pull it back. State should have more of a training video on them and maybe differnt field test. Looks i got @ test day was looks of hatred told one guy listen 2 surg on right shoulder going for number 3 leave me alone

if your a hunter your a hunter the interest was already there .people dont say oh i can use a crossbow now i'll be a hunter[eyeroll]my son watches me shoot my compound in the backyard guess what? he's interested[drinking]

Fred your chasing your tail again......

All the new hunters will ruin bow season....
Nobody wants to use xbows.....
The state says there will be 50,000 new hunters.....
People dont say oh i can use a crossbow now i'll be a hunter....

Good or bad xbows have created new hunters & most of them seem to set up within 50 yards of me;)

Crossbows have gotten people into the sport. You can't be a hunter until you are one. Glad your son is interested. Teach him well and good luck to him.[up] ;)

randy show me the stats that say crossbows created more hunters and not crossover gunhunters not bowhunters that switched and not kids who's dad hunts and they were into hunting in the first place.more bow licenses being sold doesnt tell anything i gaurantee more than half are crossover gunners

and on another note crossbows are not really a big deal to me anymore. a guy i hunt with in jackson uses one. i just dont like the created more hunters line because its BS

Here is my excuse for adding a crossbow, its just another form of archery, that I can use to hunt. Turning 53 in December, yes the shoulder and elbow hurt after 41 years of shooting bows. The knees are shot, but I still follow the pointer after pheasant with my longbow or recurve. And used the 62# Hoyt Trykon for a nice 6 pt on 9/25. Took the doe with the Excalibur xbow 2/20, now we shop for 2 more deer with traditional stuff.
