im wondering the same thing

offer seafood and cash, + marry the ugly daughter

letters in the mailbox - with a return envelope. Put a general letter together. If they are interested - they will return the letter. Very non Threatening. I have had people return the letter giving me their phone number and asking me to call them. not a huge reponse but works sometimes.

I also always subtly let it known I bow hunt in social settings in town. I don't worry about Anti's. The deer eat everyones shrubs around here so the odds are in my favor- never know who you may meet.

This is something we do all year round.Knocking on doors talking to land owners.Don't overlook the smaller places, some of my best stands are in small wood lots surrounded by houses. We work on the farms, cut trees what ever it takes. It's a year roud second job,but well worth it.A lot of times when you get in somewhere they know of other people that have deer problems

If you go anywhere that you see a mount of any kind fish included ask who's it is and where'd they get it. Start talking hunting fishing more and you will find places.

Make friends with people that work outside. Public works, contractors, truck drivers. They know who owns what and who hunts. Stopping at a farm cold is just an exercise in futility. Stopping at a farm and telling the farmer that you were talking with old Smitty at the DPW and he said you ought to come over carries a lot more weight. Better if you can get Smitty to go with you or make a call for you.

Ask everyone, tell everyone you are a hunter and don't be bashful. Even treehugers get pissed when all their arborvites have to be replaced because bambi has decided it's an easy tv dinner.

Good luck

I hunt alot of private property, and there is only one way to get permission. KNOW the landowners! If you don't know them make it your business to know them. Don't expect to get permission from the first time you meet them, don't even ask the first time. Feel them out, what are there likes dislikes, and build a relationship. No one wants an armed stranger wandering around their property, especially in this state. Someplaces I hunt I am restricted to bow only, my offer to them. Other places I can hunt with any weapon I prefer. I also usually drop meat off or fish if they prefer.

In my case I hunt one peice that is 692 acres and another across the road is 144 acres. Both properties are available to me because I offered to help out on the farm and the 144 acre piece was made avaiable to Matt and I when we dug a 100 foot trench with a backhoe. It is all about offering your services. Matt and I have worked in 10 degree weather chipping brush or cutting firewood or digging trenches. If you see nice land go up to the owner and offer to help out, in return you would like to hunt. It is as easy as that. Don't be afraid, what is the worst you can get, a NO?......If you get a yes your on cloud nine.
