Hey everyone, I just wanted to give a quick summary of how the process went for me to obtain my Firearms Identification Card. I have heard the process normally takes anywhere from 3-6 months to receive your ID. Well, I went to my local PD (Gibbsboro) with the application that I printed from the NJ State Police website. I was then instructed to have my fingerprints electronically taken and put into the system (55$ cost ) After I returned my paperwork to the police station, the two references I listed informed me that they filled out and resent the paperwork back to my PD. Now all I had to do was wait. Unbelievably, I got a phone call on Feb 24, from my Police chief informing me that my ID was ready for pickup. I began the process on Feb 2. It took 3 weeks from start to finish. I'm not sure if there has been any changed made to the system, or if my particular case was sped through the system because of my military background, but I cannot give enough praise to the people that made that happen. I was just curious if anyone had any input. Thanks!

From the time I filled out the paperwork and got the letter in the mail, I think it took me 33 days or something rather to get mine. That was before all the shootings that went on In CO and CT. I have to do an address change for mine though. Does anyone know if I have to go to the issuing PD to change it or can I go to my new towns PD and do it?

Your military background? I know a guy who has been in the military for over 25 years, high ranking officer with access to firearms, and last year it took him several months to get his FID.

It took me just as long to get an address change on mine.

Refreshing to see a PD that actually follows State law regarding "the process" ...
