Hi everyone! My name is Dave and I'm new to this site, but have been hunting for 30+ years in PA and south Jersey. I've recently moved to central NJ and I'm very excited for six day this year. I'm sure most of you would agree that there is no more fun hunting than a well executed deer drive. So I'm giving everyone an opportunity to join in on the fun. We are very experienced drivers and are more than happy to show anyone new to driving the ropes...free of charge [lol]

At this point we have twelve members, mostly family and close friends, but we would like to get a minimum of twenty-five to thirty before the start of six day. The more of you that would like to join the better. As we know that life happens and some people have to back out last minute for one reason or another. If you know of anyone that might be interested send them my way.

Our goal is to do six drives at six different WMAs during six day shotgun. After six day is over we are going to try and do one a week for the remainder of shotgun season. I'm going to get a list of WMAs we will be driving and on which days in the near future so stay tuned!

If you are interested send me a message and I will get back to you!

YOOOOOO BUCK!!!!

So im just curious, I don't shotgun hunt only bow, but lets say your doing a drive at a WMA and you start approaching a stand not part of your party and they shoot a driven deer, a nice buck perhaps. How would you handle that ? Personally I feel drives can be a nuisance to other hunters not involved that are just trying to sit in their stand and peacefully wait for a nice opportunity .

My advice..............if u drive deer, shoot slugs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Too many wounded deer by drivers w buckshot. In PA you drive w a single projectile (Rifle). Here in NJ.......MANY NOT ALL, drive w buskshot, hit deer unknowingly and leave deer all over. Too many guys taking shots 80 yds w buckshot. Make the "Deer Drivers" use slugs. Good luck.

i love drives, and iam sure this post was only ment to stir the pot! i would suggest anyone hunting during the firearm seasons plan on people doing drives , scout the groups known to do drives , pattern them just as you would the deer. i cant tell you how many deer i have shot because of someone else is driving the valley below, or the next ridge over, even a few as the group has just pushed the same ridge iam on that tried to come sneaking back! no matter how you like to hunt BE SAFE !

I know driving is not for everyone, but we all have our own ideas about hunting. State says it's legal and from the amount of messages I've received so far a lot of guys are interested. I'm guessing we will probably have a lot more guys than we expected by the time six day gets here.

Good luck in the woods!

We occasionally do a push on 1 certain piece of woods in private land. Its also never been more than 4 guys (2 shooters, 2 walkers tops). It is almost always a last ditch effort to get a deer for one of our friends/brothers that are in school or now live elsewhere and only have a few days to hunt. I would hate to be in a stand and have an orange army come trudging by though.

I can't stand drivers. Us REAL hunters, scout from early on, put in countless hours studying properties, deer, their patterns ect. We set up stands, move stands, and cameras, all while practicing with our bows. We study the wind and practice scent control. We wake up early, come in late, do all day sits, all to hopefully have a good buck come by within bow range.

Drivers don't dust off their blaze orange until opening morning, grab their gun and a few boxes of shells, and turn the woods into a damn shooting range once first light hits. Anyone can walk around the woods with a loaded gun shouting and shooting anything with a bone on its head. IMO it should be illegal. But that won't happen until we have a few more idiots shooting each other and a few more housing developments established. The state doesn't care about driving, all they want it's reduced deer population, and your money from license fees.

:rofl2: thats the funniest thing I have read today! why do people think the way they hunt is the only way of hunting !so sitting in a tree all day waiting for a deer to walk buy is the only way of hunting? FYI several states allow deer drives and some allow you to run them with dogs [eek] guess what its all hunting and as long as it is legal people need to mind there own business and worry about how you hunt.the most important thing is we can hunt and put food on the table and we are happy hunting the way we like.

ill drive with you as long as i get to walk under some of these guys stands that are bitching about it. [lol]blah blah blah i put in the time and the effort sit in my stand i bought the corn from walmart carried it out have my feeder set im a real hunter....[wallmad] this site sucks because off all the bitching. leave the guy alone let him hunt and others how they want

A lot of hypocrites on this site.
Do the drive with slugs, too many wounded deer with buck shot. Seriously, look at all of the posts of lost and wounded deer for archery, maybe the only bow one should hunt with is a crossbow. As with any legal weapon it is up to the hunter to be proficient with the weapon of choice, no his/her and the weapon's limitation and take ethical shots.
Worse thing is after I patterned my buck, having 25 guys lined up come walking through and messing my hunt up. By the time 6 day comes along you have had over 2 months to pattern and kill your buck.
In this state, pattern deer typically means, put bait out, corn, apples, sweet potatoes, pumpkins etc, put a camera on it and have pictures showing the target buck is there in the morning or night so that is to hunt.
I hate being up in my tree and having drivers come walking through. Well if you aren't hunting on private ground they (drivers) have just as much a right to the woods as you do.
Deer drives are legal. Most deer clubs are driving clubs that have been around a long time with a lot of history. To come on here and constantly bash how everyone else hunts, i.e uses bait, does deer drives, uses a crossbow, doesn't use a longbow or recurve, uses an inline instead of a flintlock or caplock etc does not do our sport any favors.

NJDeerDrivers good luck with the deer drives.

We need to mind our own business and worry about the way WE hunt. Correct, hence the reason I am so strongly against deer drives in this state. When it is 8am on opening morning and I'm tucked in my stand since before day break and a bunch of drivers come bashing through the woods, I am worrying about the way I hunt, and I'm also worrying about the way they are screwing up my hunt. In this state it is rather easy to kill a deer. There is no need for deer drives. I hunt maine as well and drives are popular there as well. But I have hunted days without even seeing a single deer up there in the big woods, and we would usually push a few peices the last day of the season to put meat in the freezer. Not opening morning.
