Yes, I shot him with my crossbow, I plan to bow hunt the entire bow season with it, mainly because I like and enjoy shooting it, it’s fun and I guess also because so many people hate it that it just make me want to use it all the more
No big story or drama to tell, he showed up 2 days ago on my trail cam but appeared to be nocturnal, as the trailcam pix were between 8:00pm and 4:00am, had a 5 pt come not even an hour after getting set up in stand (5:00pm), then watched him feed on leaves as he made his way back to the field edge he had came from, about 5:30 it got pretty dark fast and started raining. I was going to stick it out no matter how bad it got weather wise that's unless my tree fell
I was texting back and forth a bit with JRhunt on how my hunt was going since he was at work.
at around 5:45 the 5 pt worked his way back out in front of me but kept looking around so I figured something must be putting him on edge, naturally I started pray that it was the buck in the trail cam pics from the night before, Just then to my left I saw something move about 75 yards away, figured it was just another squirrel, to my surprise out steps this HUGE bodied deer. I could see he had a nice sized rack and quickly got my binos on him and was thrilled to see it was indeed the magnificent mature buck I was hoping it was.
He was just standing there checking out the 5pt., Now all I could do was hope he will come in calm and focused on the 5pt how was clam and just feeding around.
Well it seem to take forever, as this buck made two scrapes and eventually pushed the 5pt on and was fallowing him at 25 yards out he hesitated for a second giving me exactly the shot I wanted a very slight quartering broadside shot , I settled scope on him and let it fly, the arrow hit dead on the money he rear up doing that back leg buck kick and took off hunched up , made it to the revien 50 yards away and stopped for 2 or 3 seconds that colapsed right down on himself and never moved again.
I suck at picture taking and really suck at self picture taking.
Here are a few better pics.
On serious note, I hunted just as hard and EXACTLY the same as I do with my Mathews DXT, I even went thru the same adrenalin rush before and the complete loss of control with the shacking and everything else we bow hunters go through when finally get that shot. Other then not having to draw back it is pretty much the same experience except knowing your odds of missing are extremely low, but getting to the shot is no different then any other bow hunt I’ve done.
Anyway I stoked and damn well please with the way my hunt ended yesterday, as well as the results from my Parker tornado.
He weighs in at 171lbs is a 9 point with a 20" spread and an extra little kicker at the base of his G3
Believe me, pics just don't do him justice
Enjoy the pics
