I'm going to make the assumption we're talking pump shotguns here ... 870 v. 500

Ten years ago, I would have given the slight edge to Remington. Not really impressed with what's been coming out of their factory as of late. (& don't get me started on what they did to Marlin lever actions when they bought them out)

My vote goes to Mossberg for the 500/590 line, but this is going to come down to personal preference. Just like a Ford v. Chevy debate ... both 'll get the job done.

I'm a Mossberg or Browning guy, had two Remingtons in my life, POS 700 with trigger issues. And an 1187 super magnum, broke after using it three times & I missed an opportunity to kill a piebald doe because of it. Will never buy another ever, straight up junk. I know guys love them, that's great just not the brand for me I guess. I like their ammo...

I own 2 mossbergs, and 4 remingtons. The remingtons get used. everything is pre "90's, probably pre "80's even My #1 gun since the early "80's has been the same 870 for duck, deer, upland, you name it. Its been beaten and abused and drug all over the country. Ole reliable. I now have a dedicated 870 slugger, so the only time Im not carrying it is deer anymore, or when I break out the 10 ga

I have a Mossberg 500 that I love and I bought my older son a Super Bantam 500 in 20 gauge. I let him decide between the 870 and the 500. He liked the 500 better. My younger son will get his first shotgun this spring and I will let him choose also. I think when it comes to pumps they are both very good. If I was looking for a semi, I would choose Remington over Mossberg.

I hear people say that mossberg is junk I own both a remington 1187 and 500. Note I wouldn't put the remington through half the torture I put the 500 through. It's been used as a club a paddle broken ice with it and droid it in the bay. Add with any thing you have to take care of any fire arm and clean it. My mossberg has been through hell and still shoots never had an issue
