Just out of curiousity...

You guys with the 870s - do you have mag or super mag
and what size barrel for your smoothbore?...takin' a poll.

I'm going to get the 26" barrel, but not sure if Mag or SuperMag chamber.

Coming late to this thread. I'm new to hunting and looking to buy a Remington 870 for clays, birds, and deer. Is it necessary to have a second barrel for deer, or is there a conveniently removable mount that will let me take a scope on and off of the barrel without having to sight in each time?

Mark I'm sorry I am going to be disappointed in you if you shoot a deer with a gun before you get one in bow season first?[rofl][rofl]

I never thought I would say this about those 835 guns but I will because my gun changed my thinking on them.$235.00 for a turkey gun and I bought chokes and its a great gun.[cool]

A long while back I bought the 11-87, then a rifled sight screw in ckoke barrel. Cabela's has them Probably for the 870 too.

The great thing with the rifle sighted barrel is for slugs sitting for deer, use a rifled choke tube. Mine shoots 2 inch groups at 50 yrds offhand. Want to move around or deer drive with buck shot? Swap to an improved cylnder choke. (Just be sure to unload and do it fast before a buck shows up.) Turkey? Use the other choke tubes. Then use the field barrel for ducks, birds. My wife uses it now with a scope on a receiver mount. I got another 11-87 with a cantilever barrel, scope and choke tubes. It is now my deer and turkey gun. I use a benelli pump for birds - faster swing and never jams.

Then use the field barrel for ducks, birds.

The 870 is a good option as long as you don't mind the kick vs. a semi-auto.

I do not think you need the 3 1/2 chamber, 3 inches is fine.
