Great post and reminder[up] Shooting low on the bird into the breasts, unlike deer would be a bad thing.

 

hit them high, watch them die - hit them low, watch them go is my motto. i have bowhunted turkeys exclusively for years now. the biggest challenge i find is judging the vitals on a live turkey. i usually focus on the irradescent feathers located on the rear of the wing. put an arrow in that area and your bird will travel a short distance.

 

another good rule of thumb is to use the legs as the vertical line into the vitals. it will keep you from shooting forward into the breast which has no vital.

 

Hit them high in the legs...and they go down super quick as well....

Great info, last year I bowhunted turkey for the first time, I hit one with what looked like a kill shot, it layed there for a few mins and when I walked over to it, it got up and ran away. They sure are tough

Who has taken the vent shot with success and how much meat is damaged from that shot?

Here is a couple hunts from 2 seasons ago. Hit them here and they die. Just don't shoot the blind like the dummy here did[rofl][rofl][rofl] He did have a good recovery though[up]
