By far the best versatile hunting breed is the Drahthaar
I'll second that.[up]
Upland, waterfowl, small game such as rabbits, points etc etc.

Second behing them my choice would be an English pointer. Beautiful dogs, especially when on point.

i have two shorthairs and getting a future Brittany, A friend of mine has a litter coming up of shorthaies both NAVHDA VC's he lives in E. Brunswick, his email is chuckz65@aol.com

Litter due Spring 2006

We are pleased to announce the upcoming breeding between two truly talented and versatile dogs. VC Double Trouble Sue and VC Elk Von Burkhart MH (Tref) will be bred early spring of 2006. Both dogs come from a long line of established kennels that produce hunting dogs that are calm, lovable members of their families coupled with the right blend of drive and desire in the field and water. They are eager to please and have a love of finding birds. Their lineage reads like a "Who's Who" to anyone that is familiar with pedigrees. Their backgrounds reflect many years of selective breeding which is evident that within a 5 generational pedigree there are:

» 4 KS Titled dogs
» 4 NAVHDA Versatile Champions
» 6 NAVHDA Utility Prize I dogs
» 9 AKC Titled Master Hunters

Nobelles Double Trouble Sue
(Nobelles Double Trouble Dott MH x Axel von dem Weiden Haus)

» Dam and sire are AKC Master Hunters
» Sire is a NAVHDA Versatile Champion and an International Champion
» Dam's litter is the recipient of both a NAVHDA Natural Ability Award and a Utility Breeder's Award litter
» Sue's first litter is the recipient of a NAVHDA Natural Ability Breeder's Award
» Four of Sue's littermates are Utility dogs--three with a Prize I
» One of her littermates has earned an AKC Master Hunter Title
» Three of her littermates by the time they were 11 months old earned their AKC Junior Hunter Title

OFA- Excellent

VC Elk von Burkhart MH
(VC Dee von Burkhart x Wag-ae-Monte MH)

» Dam and sire are AKC Master Hunters
» Dam is a NAVHDA Versatile Champion
» Three of Elk's littermates are NAVHDA Utility Prize I dogs
» Two Versatile Champions within the litter
» Elk's litter is the recipient of a NAVDHA Natural Ability and a Utility Breeder's Award Litter
» Although a young dog, Elk has sired a NAVHDA Natural Ability Breeder's Award litter

OFA-Good
The reason for this breeding is simple CONSISTANCY. All of the puppies between a Nobelle female, sired by Tref produced puppies with:

» Intensity on point as well as while honoring
» Tons of natural ability
» A love for water
» Highly intelligent
» Extremely cooperative
» Never quit attitude
» Natural Retrievers

Many of the puppies had birds shot over them at the young age of 4 months. They have gone on to be valued hunting companions as well as achieving the highest honors within the testing systems their owners have tested them in. This will be Sue's second and probably last litter, so if you are looking for that perfect blend of family companion, trainability and cooperation, an outstanding nose with never quit attitude, this is one litter you should not miss out on.

If you are interested in a mating between these two proven bloodlines, and offspring that have been proven, not only by the breeding of one female and one litter, but that of several, then please give Charlie Zito a call at 732-257-7855. East Brunswick, N. J. for pedigrees, photos, and add. Info. Special consideration given to NAVHDA families. E-mail address is chuckz65@aol.com.

I have 2 brittanys and would never think of any other breed.
Remember 1 thing, whoever you get it from, make sure you get the pedigree and it comes from a proven bloodline.
Then the dog is only as good as you want it to be. Like anything, its Alot of work. All the titles that are on that guys dog / dogs took him many years and alot of hard work and training, which is also fun.
