Went fluke fishing with three friends on Sunday 8-25. We had ten keepers up to 241/2 inches all on bucktails with gulp and gulp teasers. Most fish hit the plain teasers. When we returned the dock at the ramp was mobbed we tied up at the very end of the dock and I immediately saw a CO heading toward us. He boarded the boat after asking us how we did, opened the cooler and measured the two smallest fish. everything was legal size. He then asked what we were using for bait and we replied Gulp. He then asked to see the Gulp which we showed him. He then proceeded to check all the bait wells and underfloor compartments, all were empty. I am glad to see the COs are there checking and doing a thorough job. The weekend before my friends were there and saw people with lots of out of season Seabass to bad the COs were not there then!

I got checked several times at the highlands without incident. The first time it was by a heavy set gentleman who ask to see our fish after the boat was on the trailer. I said if you wanna check them you can climb up and look. Well he proceeds to step on the trailer fender but is unable to swing his leg up high enough to get into the boat. Hahaha! So i hop up and untie the cooler so he can check the fish. He has since learned to check the boats while they are still in the water. After two or three times he would recognize us and stop over to ask how we did and just say " i know you guys are good have a nice day." i dont cheat so im glad to see them enforcing the rules and they are usually very polite and courteous.

With Sea Bass closing on 8/4 I'm sure there looking for that. People hate having to throw them back dead when u gotta pull a hook out of it stomach

im sure he asked about the gulp because many people use fluke belly illegally. I was checked there on the trailer with my dads buddy a couple years ago at AH. No problem, the CO was cool.

You are only allowed to use strips of fluke belly from a legal size fish that was caught that day and you must retain the rack. You can not use parts of a fish from a previous trip. That is probably what he was looking for.

Only if you murder someone. Checking for fluke belly is much more important.

I was checked sunday in the manasquan river by CO's they went through the same stuff. fish cooler, bait cooler.. They were actually very pleasant. only took them abt 5 mins was the second time this summer I was checked by CO;s and once by marine police. Co's just wanted to see bait and catch, MP just wanted to see registration and boat licesnse, life jackets.... I really dont mind seeing them there, I go legal so theres no worry anyway
