Not at this time of year...Backfish move offshore in the fall and winter and return in the spring to spawn. You can catch blackfish off the manasquan inlet jetties and in the point pleasant canal. I know guys fish and spear fish some of the jetties on the beach from manasquan up to sea bright but not every jetty is productive and not many people do it. There really isnt any visible structure/rockpiles that you can fish from shore productively in the sandy hook. if you really want to catch blackfish just hop on one of the party boats out of AH/Belmar/Point Pleasant.
There are some nice wrecks off the beaches a little further south that hold nice black fish. You will not fish them from shore, but you can reach them from shore with SCUBA gear. I used to love hitting a late afternoon high tide and bring home dinner. It is great when you can pick the fish you want as it swims by.
I ahve caughting black fish from the beach when b [no swearing please] fishing with clams.Free dove the wreck and got a couple nice ones for dinner.fish some of the jettys with clams, you will catch them.
There is a Captain Mike O'Neil's boat out of Ocean City, NJ that I went out on at the end of Dec., like the 29th. We did really well using live crabs on the wrecks off the shore, about 7 miles out. The boat was very nice, a 55ft the marina was very nice. It's an idea if your interested.
Some 25 years ago a friend of my dad took me down the shore (can't remember where), and we dug the beach for crabs I think and we caught a mess of black fish that day.
To bad I can't remember where.
