if u can save a couple hundred more or find one used benelli super nova's are great...everyones gonna say remington or mossberg...personally i think mossbergs are crap, remingtons are reliable and good guns i started out hunting with one....i like the feel and performance of a benelli..

 

Not to be a party pooper but all guns seem to shoot differently with buckshot. I had a remington 870 with modified choke it would lay the deer down. I bought a "nicer" (more expensive) gun that was terrible. I had sold my old reliable before testing the "better " gun out. I bought another 870 and it never patterned buckshot like the old one I had. I have a Benelli Super NOva that has 3 different chokes that I will try some buckshot through soon! I like a gun you can change chokes on I think by changing chokes you will find something that works.

 

My ithaca 10 gauge 32" full choke barrel shooting 3 1/2 #4 buck drop them stone dead at 70yds. Paid $325 at Rays yrs ago.

 

I have an old Franchi 48AL 12 guage that shoots 3 inch 00 Win. Copper Shot unbelieveably. When I was younger and dumber I rolled a couple deer at distances out to 75 yards. I wouldnt take that shot now but the gun is awesome.

Yes sir, and thank you very much for the assistance Since then he knocked down 3-4 more with the Mossberg that I had to lung-knife as well [rofl]

 

The Beneli nova and Browning BPS are the best grouping shotguns iv owned. i get really good groups out to 50 yards with both guns.

 

Beneli Nova, I just bought one, you using modified or improved cylinder with buck shot? I always used modified with my old shotgun but starting over with the Super Nova

I like my Remington SP 10 with full choke. But it's not under $400.00

 

Any gun you buy will benefit from an aftermarket choke like Patternmaster, Rhino, etc. It's not the gun that matters, it's the choke.

 

Whats wrong w/ what you have? Pattern the Savage w/ the 2 3/4" You might be surprised. Try different size buck shot w/ different chokes. Just like you would pattern your turkey loads. Many deer & turkey have been harvested w/ 2 3/4".

 

Find a used Browning BPS with investor plus. Never had a 12 ga iv Browning that wouldn't throw buckshot great. Tru lock ef choke in it.

 

I have an old stevens double that loves buckshot, I just dont see why anyone would hunt with buckshot with the improvement in slugs and slug guns these days.

 

I have an 870 SP chambered in 12 ga. 3 1/2 inc. all camo-new for $450 from simon peter 4 years ago. that's my turkey/buckshot brush gun

 

I have a 500 and it patterns okay, at 20 yards i have 9 of the 12 balls in a kill zone. Now my friends 500 shoots amazingly he has about 11 of 12 in the kill zone at 20 yards. Also it depends on the ammo some guns shoot better with one brand then others.

 

if you want a greatbuckshot gun, just order a kick's buck kicker choke tube, their gaurenteed and custom made for whatever buckshot size you want to shoot. Iv got mine in a benelli nova and it puts 14/15 pellets in an 18" circle at 50 yards. it costs around $80 but worth every penny. their service is top notch.

 

My savage has a choke on the end, tighten it for full, loosen for improved, ect; for some reason it shoots a decent pattern but about a ft high at 30yds
