Anyone ever crest an arrow after it was fletched?

I was thinking of cresting some arrows in blaze orange. my idea was to mask the blazer vanes, nock, and 3 inches above the vanes. Question one. What is the best paint to use. Do you think this will work? Am i better off just buying shafts having them profesionally crested and fletched? I don't have a jig otherwise I would just crest them and then fletch them. I don't like arrow wraps. I have found sometimes the come a little undone and then it throws the whole flight of the arrow off. Has anyone here ever painted an already fletched arrow? What paint did you use and how successful were you?

thanks for response. Do you think if i put masking tape on the fletching material and nock and used blaze orange spray paint it would work?
Where are all my arrow builders tonight?

Outlaw when you dip the arrows or spray em how do you dry them? I was thinking of masking them about three inches above the fletch and hanging them nock side down.

I have been cresting arrows for years, and have never heard of anyone painting after fletching, not that it can't be done.I'm not sure how its going to look, you would have to be real neat in taping off of everything. When I first started ,I would dip then, hang them to dry by screwing 8-32 eye bolts with part of the eye cut out into the end.Now I just spray, less mess and waste.Cresting is more than just painting the end with a solid color,at that point they are just dipped. If you want to crest you will have to either make or buy a cresting machine that spins your arrow at a slow speed, then with fine brushes you apply different color lines around the arrow to give it that distinct look. When I had more time to play,I would match up color strips on the shaft to strips on my feathers. You have to cut each feather somewhere in the middle and insert a different color feather in to match the strip on the shaft. Its very time consuming but fun if you have the time to kill.I have a VHS tape that explains the whole process if you would like to borrow it PM me.
