For whatever reason I can't explain, I've never found hen birds in late season, only cock birds

I've seen a few hens but mostly cock birds. I think the reason is that hens tend to sit tighter which makes them easier prey for the yotes, fox, bears, and hawks.

They will run like crazy and fly hard and just give the dog and you a devil of a time.
