Tonight I was reading about outfitter recommendations and realized a "good" outfitter is nearly impossible to come by. First, I would like to say that I practice scent control, practice with my bow often, I am easy going, and like to think I don't expect too much. I have had the opportunity to hunt w/ outfitters in Kansas, Ohio, Illinois, and Minnesota. I have killed some decent deer, no giants. I have read positive reviews here for some outfitters that I flat out think SUCK. I am willing to spend good money for a fair deal and if I find what I'm looking for, would rebook every year. Here are my simple requests for an outfitter: Clean, dry room (nothing fancy), edible food (once again, nothing fancy), good stands (placement, cushions, & pull rope), see deer (not necessarily have a shot at them), pleasant guide (Not arrogant or braggers), decent amount of land that is not over hunted & lastly, gives EVERY client a fair and equal shot at killing a deer (Not just their friends, relatives, or themselves). I have yet to find an outfitter that meets these simple guidelines. If you know of an outfitter that does, PLEASE PM me with their contact info. Am I asking for too much???????????????????????????!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I found that in Montana with Tullic creek outfitters but your going to pay for it.
I did not hunt from a tree stand but they were spot on with everything they did so I assume a stand hunt would be the same.

Oh and ALL the guides are professional guides who guide fly fisherman and duck hunters on the Bighorn year round they deal with the rich and famous while fishing (Washington big wigs , Rock and country music stars).

Wisconsin, Minesota, Michigan U.P. especially the northern parts lest few years have had pretty bad herd degradation by wolf. The herds are way down, and wolves are pretty well protected. I would shy away for now. (I have hunt camps in northeastern Wisconsin, and Minnesota)

Dude you seriously gotta check out Buck Paradise Outfitters in Saskatchewan for deer, bear, ducks and geese or Hickory Creek Outfitters in Kansas for deer, turkey, or predator. Both are outstanding and cover your guidelines ten fold.

All of those reasons are why I head to Canada every year.

My friend hunts all over the country and BC. He had many bad hunts. Now he only goes to the Cabela's Tags. Yes it is more money ,but Cabela's is not going to set you up with a non-professional outfitter.

My buddy mike and his wife just set up an outfitter in Ohio Coshocton County Outfitters . They are great people and just truly love and live hunting. Have been hunting ohio and all over the country for years. They have their own show on the sportsman channel. I would definitely recommend looking into them.
Maybe you could convince them to donate a turkey hunt for the NJH Turkey Contest? No biggie if you can't. I'll be checking them out for a whitetail hunt for next November. Good stuff!

I want to retire to Montana , hopefully I will still be in good enough shape to guide some hunts. I always figured get some land near state land hang some stands where I would hunt and limit the number of hunters so they can get decent service. Posts like this just confirm it not only can be done but word would travel fast if you just did a decent job!

I would go on a hunt, anyone want to hook up.I have heard too many horror story's on bad hunts. From what i am told Cabela'a does everything on a booked hunt. I would have to look into it further, but Cabela's reputation is at stake and that's good enough for me.

I've been on 7 guided hunts over the last 15 years for everything from whitetail to mountain goat and only once was I not happy with my outfitter and guide. Most I chose based on word of mouth referral and one on doing my own research(the goat hunt). The one that I was unhappy with was based on a personal reference and my best guide/outfitter was the goat hunt that I researched on my own. The key is get referrals but also do your own research. There are a lot of websites out there but the one I found best was Bowsite.com. I used it to help choose my goat hunt even though I used a rifle. I figured if they could get some one in bow range they could get me into rifle range.

I have posted my experiences multiple times on this site, just search my user name as the thread starter. I would highly recommend buying a deer point and elk point in Wyoming before the end of the month (yes only a couple days left). Then if you want to hunt Wyoming I can chat with you about meeting all of your expectations.
