Hey -

I`m going out to get a "Turkey-Cannon" this weekend........ I use that old Belgium Browning 12-gauge 2 3/4 now, but
really want to crack `em with a 3.5 inch "Cannon"!

Either gonna go with a Semi-Automatic Mossberg 935 Magnum or a Semi-Automatic Berretta A300 Xtreme........

Any thoughts on either would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks a lot -

Ken-

I have a 935 with the 28" and 24" barrel I'm not a fan. Had too many problems with shell ejection when it really matters. And I hate the fact that it's 3" & 3.5" only. No 2-3/4". If your going for the Beretta spend the little extra & get the 400.

If you want my personal opinion I would say, avoid both of your first choices and either get the new 3.5" Browning A5 or the Browning Maxus. I have the Maxus it's the best hunting auto loader I've ever owned. Only downside is the price tag, but well worth the money. Shoot mine sometime and you'll see where that extra $1,000 went.

I also have an 1187 super magnum I used for one season. (Probably has about 75 rounds down the pipe. Then something broke internally and is sitting in the box it came in. I really love shooting a shotgun and parts fly out of the receiver when pulling the trigger. A $600 semi auto is going to be just what it is. You get what ya pay for. Just my opinion of course and I know they're similar to something else everyone has.

Yes the o-ring is in tact. Something metal broke off the bolt inside the receiver and flew out of the gun. I couldn't find what actually broke it's in the leaves on the ground somewhere in the woods of Zone9 still. Lol

One day I will have it fixed and put that baby up for sale here for someone else to enjoy lol. So many guys love Remington, I think they're junk. I'll never buy another gun with their name on it ever. Think my 700 with the trigger recall was the final straw for me with cheap mass produced Remingtons. I'm a Browning/Beretta guy now.

I will add, the older Remington shotguns like the 1100 or 1187 are great guns. But I want 3-1/2" capabilities. So they're useless to me.

I forgot to mention my Father in laws 1187 super mag also broke, his was just an o-ring though. To be expected with any Remington.

Whoever started this thread, I hate you :)

Now you done gone and got me googling around and thinking....

Take a look at this:

Beretta A300 Outlander Semiautomatic Shotguns

A300 Outlander Black Synthetic on sale for 650 (is camo worth an additional $130?? [confused]) . That could be the starter semi-auto SG I've been thinking about.

The question someone else asked is a good one to think about - Do you really need it chambered in 3.5"? For what I want this for, I don't. For goose and maybe some trap shooting. So going for the Outlander over Extrema might be worth it.

I need to think about this some more.... time to spend yet more money??? [smoke]

@ Zone9DeerSlayer - You`re not gonna believe this, but I actually started considering at a new A5 3.5" after I posted this........ As I`ve only ever shot Brownings my entire life. Thanks for the advice & offer.

Hey LBISurfrat - Yea I was almost gonna go with another Belgium Browning 3" Magnum - but then I was thinking, hell how different is the 3" from the 2.75" that I shoot with a full-choke now in my old Belgium Lt. Twelve Browning? I really didn`t think there`d be a helluva lot of a difference, hence is why I was setting my sights on a 3.5" gun.....

Well like I said, I`ve always been a Browning guy all my life......hell I currently have four Belgium Brownings. Three 12 gauges & one 20 gauge. So yea, I dig Browning Shotguns.

Once you hold the new A5 you're going to be suprised. It's not your daddy's A5. The thing weighs nothing compared to my old man's A5 but feels like it, looks like it, shoots like it, and takes 3.5" shells! It's a no Brainer for a Browning guy. Simon Peter Sport in Andover has them in stock. If I didn't already have a Maxus and an old Belgium myself I would buy one.

Actually I think I just talked myself into buying one [emoji1]

ha! ha! I started this thread mazzgolf! ........ Don`t be a hater!! ha! ha! & yes, I`m thinking I want a 3.5" gun for turkey...... maybe even duck or predator.

@ Zone9DeerSlayer - Well I shoot a 1960 Belgium Browning Light Twelve 12gauge & it`s pretty light to me anyway. It`s not a Magnum Browning which are heavier. Now what is the difference between a Maxus & A5??? Maxus = 3.5" ???? I`m guessing.......

No one seems to have expressed any pros or cons on the guns. In my opinion the Beretta is a better gun, but the pulls are long on em all. Not exactly sure why Italians don't grow over 5'8" but if you're short you're gonna have problems.
The Mossberg, another in my opinion but it's based in fact, is a much better turkey gun.
I personally like the pumps.,but bear in mind I'm referring to the 835 or 935s only.
The barrels are overbored, almost ten gauge. Forcing cones, the area your crimp hits is elongated or open. This can very slightly lower velocity so they say but it allows for far superior patterns. A few other companies have open cones but I don't think the Beretta does.
3-1/2" of shot crammed down a tube than into a turkey choke, can make a gun seem overchoked or plain just not shoot well.
The combination of the overbored barrel and open cones make the transition of shot smoother and patterns better most times.
If your heart gets set on the Beretta or another gun the Longbeards offer superior patterns in many of them so check em out
