MIKE G - there was no scouting done on their part. They couldbt believe they " found this huge open area; looks pretty cool! " they never stepped foot on that area before in their life. They didnt know squat! They were not familar with the land. They all drink and hunt. Lowest forms of humans -drunks.

Orange ontop or blind. The right way.
I hunt with my 70yr old father in law whom cant climb a tree stand anymore.

Its a food plot not a bait pile.
I planted sugar beets- and clover in the spring. As long as I dont harvest them they are considered natural. As far as "clearing" goes
I dont cut any branches or greens. I use fallen down logs and branches to make funnels to areas.

I picked up a bow back in sept/october and have been practicing. Just need to get the test done.

I had no opinion about deer drives until yesterday. How on earth is that quality time in the woods?
The woods is ment for quiet- thinking- relaxation. Not asses barraling down the trails in their wives Tahoes dumping people along the trails.
Couldnt believe all of them each had cigarette in their mouths.

If they wouldnt have wondered on over and continue to walk right into my blind I wouldn't have cared.

Outdoor channel sucks.

Not one person their scouted the area or checked any deer sign. Hunting is not about the deer to me. Its about time with family.

Get in quiet and get put quiet. Leave no trash and dont ruin the enviroment. Thats what ive always been taught.

Gun clubs are just out for blood - I would never ruin another hunters day by screaming and b itching that the brush or thorns are too thick and he needs a break to piss.

One on hand isnt this a form of hunter harrasment? Yelling and screaming to push or scare wildlife from a hunter? It doesn't say anything about the other person being a non-hunter...

So Scott....how often does imposing ones will on another work for ya? Driving might not be your cup of tea, but it's legal and lots of folks find it fun. We, as hunters need to stick together and act as one. Not bicker like little girls.
You seem to say this is your first year hunting. Lots of firm opinions with little experience.

1. As has been stated in almost every thread on the entire internet, driving does no push deer out of an area. They often just lay down and let the drivers pass. Most clubs do not have "hardcore" members, some are for sure, but most are just guys taking a vacation, having fun with their friends and otherwise enjoying themselves. You don't think that should be allowed?
2. Most clubs....MOST......have very strict rules about drinking while hunting. I have hunted with 3 separate clubs. Not as a member, but as a guest. I saw no drinking during the hunts. Not to say it doesn't happen.....but come on.....at least attack them well. If what you say is true, per the average anti propaganda, you as hunter are an interbred red neck who married his cousin and likes little boys. I personally don't think that.....but that's what generalizing gets you Scotty.

3. YOU SIR ARE BAITING......admitting you have a problem is the first step Scott.

4. And I am sorry.....all this ethical talk about blood, and "I respect the animal" and all that crap is fine.....but we KILL. Plain and simple. I am all for taking ethical shots. Putting the prey down immediately. No suffering. But I am sorry.....arterial blood in the snow is a good thing!

I admire your tenacity for deer hunting. Obviously you are naive to the workings of NJ. I hate say it again: It's public land! Please don't keep on making the same mistake and expect a different outcome.
Why should I move or stay off of public land?

Sorry to hear your hunt got messed up, but thats the way it is on public land, they have a right to hunt it. perhaps had you LET THEM SEE YOUR ORANGE while on stand they might had gone around you. It is annoying but IT DOES NOT MAKE THEM SCUM. These are just another group who are enjoying the sport LEGALLY on public land. I have taken deer from the stand when drivers came in the woods and moved the deer and most times when drivers see you they will take a wider sweep away from you.

If you are a real hunter you should learn how to spell pheasant. I think it's stupid for someone to post their "score" on a chat room, but I don't write that.

There's a good chance that the guys who did the drive have been driving those woods for many years. Public land is public land and you have to accept the good with the bad. If they pushed the 9 pointer right past you and you shot it, would you value the harvest less? Doubtful. You probably would have posted it and been able to elevate your "0" to a "1" in your tally. That would be a "1" under "buck" not "doe", so we all can keep score.

Getting down on other hunters because they chose to do something different than you but is perfectly legal is poor form. People like to do that on this board "you shouldn't keep stripers" "can't believe people shoot deer on drives" is all bs. We are all hunters and even though some methods are different than what you deem acceptable on your ivory tower you should start looking in the mirror before judging.

I love how everybody says use it to your advantage or they have the right and they are great guys just having fun
apparently you have never shoot a deer when a club was pushing through...cause they claim it.." if it wasn't for us you wouldn't have got it" happened to me in 2002
they have a right to hunt it...well do do i... and it shouldn't be messed up by a bunch of non hunting idiots..2010..hunting a piece of private property club comes through..I tell them it's private...they don't care..I tell them I'm calling the law...they say go ahead, we will be long gone before they get here...driving trucks with no license plates

you must be still drunk from yesterdays drive.

I feel your pain. I was raised as a stand hunter. That's all me and my son do. I believe in scouting and setting up the perfect spot to harvest a deer. I feel its very rewarding. Even more then harvesting just seeing deer act natural in thiet home is awesome. Watching bucks spar or full out fight. Watching does and small deer groom one another or establish a pecking order. Or just having s deer bed by you. We experience a lot with still hunting. But driving is legal. Not my cup of tea but legal. There's plenty of private land avalible to hunt. If your gonna work as hard as you do on public land use that effort and knock on doors. My son and I had the best time yesterday. For the pm hunt he wanted to make a ground blind instead of stand hunting. So we did. He loved seeing deer from the ground 20 yds from us. Never saw orange. Haven't seen another hunter in the last 10 years of hunting. I'm blessed to hunt where I do. If ya want that peace ya have to go out and find it.

Luk...I agree to a point, as far as the hard work...But when I buy a license permit etc. It goes toward the WMA's and other hunt able land ...And the stand hunter is a the mercy of the orange army. ..I understand they buy a license also...but most of them hunt for 1 week and think they own the woods for their $$22.50, when I'm spending almost $1000

I agree. I'm paying a lot. Thank god my sons free and half price for permits. There should be a balance. No driving Mon and sat. Or drives at set times between 10 and 2. It gives everybody a little of what they would like. But as usual. People will say why should I sacrifice. There's never gonna be a common ground

To the OP, sorry to hear your hunt got messed up. I don't see how driving on public land can be considered a safe activity because those involved cannot account for the whereabouts of people who are not part of their group (ie, is there a guy in that blind??). On private property, the only people on it are the club or group members and you know where they are or will be. Not so much on public land where people are coming and going all throughout the day. I know its public property and they have just as much right to be there and all, but IMO it doesn't give others the right to intentionally cause an unsafe situation. Just my $0.02

Go on a paid hunt for a week. Beautiful settings, great animals food and booze. No worries and memories for a lifetime. Or you could put your blind in a field on state land thinking about when the next drive will start! 8 months of hard work. How much is that worth? Can't put a price tag on it I know, but for around 2 thousand you can find a great discounted whitetail hunt. Which you will look forward too all year instead of getting pissed about something that is so predictable and uncontrollable. JMO

Sorry to hear your hunt was blown up. But I can't help think when I read posts like this. Has anyone ever hunted 6 day before?. I've been hunting close to 40 years and it's been this way for as long as I have been hunting. 6day is crap shoot at best. Trying to pattern and hunt a buck on public land during 6day is tough. Even without drives you have other stand hunters , guys wandering around and all the guys who spent last weekend scouting so your real lucky if you can catch a buck on his normal pattern. You have to take 6day for what it is and try not to stress about it
