I know I've posted this pic numerous times but it does demonstrate the massive hole the Rage makes on entrance. This doe was quartering away at 15yds. The broadhead passed through the deer and left this huge wound channel. This was the first deer I took with the Rage (wanted to see what the hype was about) before this I shot the spitfires and had good results. As stated before any "well placed" shot will kill a deer no matter what broadhead you shoot, but these leave a helluva bloodtrail!

Its ADVANTAGE, is it cuts a hole the size of a softball. [up]

But its DISADVANTAGE, is people say they dont deploy all the time. (Like when you hit a bone.) [down]

My-self personally I was going to start using them but its to risky. So I'll stick to fix-blade broadheads.

The first year they came out they had a recall b/c they wouldn't open right. The top of the blades were rounded. I hit a deer in the shoulder last year and the blade was bent a little but fully deployed and did the trick still. I wish I took a pic. (wasn't real proud of the shot[confusedagain])

I know people who lost some nice deer last season when they were shooting a rage. I like and good smaller fixed blade broad head but as shootstraight pointed out it is not the head that is the most important thing in making a killing shot. Shot placement is! You can kill a deer with a field tip if it goes through the vitals. I just get worried when hunters rely on a "super head" to make up for a less than perfect shot. Practice and self control are critical to making the shot that does not rely on "huge holes" to get the job done. When we make a good shot the animal will usually go down within less than 80 yards.

Everyone has there opinion but truth is most arent educated. The rage heads are a exceptional head when used correctly. By correctly I mean your bow has to be able to handle a head of that magnitude. Seriously you have guys out there with 50lbs bows, maxima hunter 250 and they wanna know why the arrow did go through? Rage heads are for fast bows, not slow bows shooting light arrows. If your not shooting a minimum of 60lbs and dont have an arrow weight of at least 400g you are going to have alot of problems. If more people understood archery and how it works they would have alot less problems in the field. The average guy uses what he sees on TV whether its a correct fit or not. When shooting a 2" head you need the power. all of you out there with less than 60lbs kinetic energy stick with fixed. When you have more than 60 you can watch them drop!!!

For those who might be interested in shooting a Rage with low poundage as I mentioned before there is a new Rage head that is intended for slower low poundage bows. It's called the Rage 40ke. I personally think the Rocky mountain Snyper penetrates way better than the Rage head. And the g5 striker magnum fixed head gives you a 1.5 inch diameter whole with a fixed head. That's what I would suggest.

I like the Rage I am a Muzzy guy and still have them but I shot 2 with a Rage last year. My father shot 2 last year with a Rage one of his shots was a marginal hit but that Rage Put it down. I have not bought any this year I have 1 Rage left and I am using it.

Last season, I killed three deer with a rage broadhead, two with a NAP Nightmare, and two with Wasp Jak Hammers. The Jak Hammers left the best blood trails by far, and the rage blood trails were the worst, really. My set-up was a DXT set at 60#, and a 404 grain arrow.

On one shot, the exit wound was clogged, so nothing hit the ground, another shot was sharply quartering away, and the arrow penetrated both sides, but didn't pass through. Both ends broke off seperately and the blood trail was non-existent 10 feet after finding the second piece, which was the broadhead end. Third shot was a big doe, 22 yards, perfectly broadside, double lung complete pass through. The broadhead hit perfectly vertical and sliced a long, narrow path straight up and down between the ribs.

Some blood right at the hit site, but NOTHING for the next 65 yards. The deer ran about 80 yards and crashed, and I heard her go down, but in full daylight, following the scuffed leaves where she ran, I found almost no blood until approximately 15 yards from where the deer lay dead.

All 3 deer shot with the rage ran further than any of the four shot with the Nightmare and Jak Hammer. In my opinion, the Rage probably is a good enough head, but certainly not worth the hype or the amount of money you pay for them.

I've tried a few mechanicals, and would only use the Jask Hammer again, and probably will have one or two in my quiver.

As for fixed blade heads, I have been shooting Slick Tricks this summer and they fly absolutely great, even out to 50 and 60 yards. I have heard good things about their performance on game, and plan to find out in about 5 weeks or so for myself.
