Tom they wanna get done quick and hit the bar on a friday night I beleive.
or what about the fact they work long hours for little money and the state wont give them a raise. They work there ass off to mantian the lands you hunt

I tried hunting last year without a dog. No luck. Saw lots of birds on the ground but couldn't get them to flush. Risk:reward = [down]

I'll stick with deer this year, and maybe I'll shoot a squirrel or bunny or two. I wish there were rabbits on the WMAs. It would be a nice bonus after deer hunting.

I have not gone pheasant hunting on the wma's in over 10 years as a result of the poor character and safety practices of many of the hunters I was running into. During the week it's not the bad. On the weekend it's packed. Be prepaired to be rained on. I'm not talking about h2o I'm talking pellets. People seem to have no regard for hunters beyond their targets. So frustrating. Then you finally get a shot a a cockbird and 7 other guys shoot from 80 yards away and claim it was their shot that killed the bird. Rediculous. During the week you will have a much more enjoyable time.

I have the same story...And can only add that I was shot once.[down]

I stopped going as well for all the same reasons. It pissed me off to no end getting to a field an hour before shooting time only to have 4 trucks full of guys pull up 5 minutes before and racing through it. I've been hit with pellets - the idiot swung around on a bird and fired as he was beaded on me! I lost my mind that day and that was the last time out. Not to mention the broken glass cutting paws on my 2 GSP's...

I now go a few times a year to private ground with 2 friends. We stock it ourselves and hunt.

The dogs give me guilt trip every time I go out for deer though...

...[eek]....

....I as well haven't hunted state game land in many years.........I'm Sorry....but some of these folks who hunt these lands should not posess firearms[down]

If you see something illegal i.e guys going into woods early
I think that depends where you hunt. I know your allowed in the woods as long as the gun isn't loaded.
When I used to pheasant hunt Black River My wife and I were stopped a couple times on different sides and different Co's they only checked to see if our guns were loaded and just said stay out of the fields till shooting time. We were on a dirt road making our way away from the parking lots. We wouldn't go into the feild anyway, why flush a bird you can't shoot.

Now during the same time period when we hunted Medford, no one was allowed out of the parking area till shooting time. Didn't make sense or bother me but iit should be written in the digest so all would know.

I used to go 3 times a week . But Since my wife can't go till she gets her Masters out of the way I stopped going. No fun any more and way to dangerous and crowded.[sad] I'll stick to hanging in the trees.[patcheye]

As I said in a different post, go late. The slobs go home and it is a lot more laid back.

I hunt private property next to Whittingham and the same SOB's that you are complaining about are the same ones we are chasing off our property all the time. I know the feeling of getting shot at, because I've had people on the state land take shots at a bird that got up over my head and I was on my own property.

i didnt even buy a permit this year...i didnt feel like hearing the shot wiz by my head and trip over people that have no clue of what they are doing it. suck cuz i enjoy it..[mad]

Stopped going as well.
Few years ago I was hunting alone and kept hearing an older guy calling for his dog. This went on for a few hours, and while walking thru a field, a see this brittany come towards me. She was covered in briar thorns, mud and blood; and I felt really bad for her. I grabbed her collar and called over to the guy looking for her. Well it took him 10 minutes to get over to us, and when he finally got there, he proceeded to yell at me for holding his dog while he was calling for her [confused] .

As a newbie I have yet to be exposed to upland wingshooting, but I want to say that I'm sorry that many of you can't enjoy something you love because of unsafe idiots. I wish there was a way that hunter ed could do more to curtail this, but I can't think of one. I wish any that do go out on state land nothing but safety for you, your family, and your dogs, and may you come back with a bird or two to make the trip worth any potenital aggravation.

2 guys had a fight tuesday at colliers mills because some A$$HOLE shot at a bird and sprayed some other guy with pellets. I heard the whole thing for about 20 mins. they were f--k in this and that MF this and that as well stupid F... and so on. it was comical to say the least.

Well I'd a shot back at him weather I was right or wrong. of course aiming well above his ----- to take off his hat. and I don't mean the one on his head either.

I still hunt wma for quail and pheasant but it is out of control, people are real scumbags, I found a perfectly good rooster with its head blown off on the side of a main trail in manahawkin today, you can tell it was shot at realy close range or on the ground and was just left to go to waste [mad]It is geting old and your right I do find myself more disgusted every year with these dirt bags!

YES YES AND YES
Wow my sentiments exactly, but I still go out every weekend and try to go before work during the week.
1. They need to stop stocking the exact same places fields every weekend, mix it up make these guys work a little for it and they will stop going out.
2. They need more co's out there to regulate, I have seen dogs shot, dead dogs in the woods it is incredible, and too many beer cans on the ground now.

markbrit has it right hunt a little later it clears out by 10.

just a big waste of 40 bucks to me...i am going on a tower shoot in NY in January that is the only time this year i will get out for the phez[mad]
