I'm sure everyone of us that annoying, super smart alpha doe that just seems to have a sixth sense about her. This deer has been driving me nuts for two years now, and even taught her fawns how to do head fakes. Well I swore to myself that if this deer ever slips up and gives me a shot she is going down. I finally had this deer dead to rights at 15yds broadside with the wind in my face and I couldn't get myself to do it. I kept hearing my buddy Mike's voice in the back in of my head "Don't shoot that doe, she is the one keeping those smaller bucks alive!" I weighed my options over for a good twenty minutes and let her walk. I'm probably gonna regret it but it actually felt like a win knowing that I had the upper hand on her for once. Oh well, it was definitely one of those memorable hunts that will stick with me for a while.

I once had a nightmare mother doe blowing and snorting at 50 yards every day for the first ten days ruining the hunt. She spotted me in the hang on stand on day one and would circle so I put a Halloween straw man in the stand and went up with the climber another 50 yards out. She came up the ridge as usual on full alert staring at the straw man and started circling and snorting and was double lunged, hahaha end of story. Hope your doe doesn't ruin your shot at the buck that comes in with her next fall[ko]

Awesome Job !!!
It's nice to read about Hunters / "Sportsmen "if you will ,that are more about the challenge of the Hunt . It was enough for you that you dooped her senses , you knew you had her if you wanted and that's what it's all about .. I love to fill my freezer believe me but it's more then that !!!!

I know how you feel she is the educator if it's a spot I primarily hunt bucks and want a number of them to carry over she walks but if it's a spot that needs a quantity of does removed she must be the first to go period.

That's a good way of putting it. It almost feels like I'm putting the rest of the group at risk by killing her.

That is what far too many people today don't understand about hunting. It is about the hunting, not necessarily the kill. I left a few pain in the butt doe walk for those same reasons. Then again, I took a few out that needed to be gone. Amazing how big their eyes get when they know the gig is up......
