I picked up an older Marlin .22 single-shot bolt action this weekend, for use as a dispatch gun on the trap line ...
The rifle is stamped on the top of the barrel "Marlin Crown Prince" under a caricature of a royal crown. It is a single shot with a cocking ring on the rear of the bolt (similar to KSA's Cricket & Chipmunk rifles). Rifle appears to be all original & is in quite good condition, with no visible rust or missing part(s).
Now the really good news ...
After researching the rifle a bit, I discovered that this rifle is actually a special edition of the Marlin model 101 that was made for only 1 year (1959). Production was reportedly limited to 7,166 units. The rifle originally came in a special box that doubled as a carrying case, along with a Marlin rimfire scope & accessory package. While I don't have any of these "extras", the rifle is very light & handy ... just what I was looking for.
The rifle was marked $99.00 on Cabelas' used gun rack in Hamburg, PA. After using my Cabelas Club points on my card, I walked out of the store with the rifle for FREE.
So, whatcha think about my "find"? ...
