I will wash my clothes at the beginging of the season and as needed through out the season. I will always dry them outside. When I hunt I will usually spray some type of earth cover scent.

Usually I use the wind.

Plus I hunt along the Route 80 fence line and all you smell is exhaust fumes.

Outlaw its good to see I'm not the only one who will light up while in the tree. Like I said I have shot deer with a cigarette hanging from my mouth.

Scrubby rack buck -

I found that having the cig hangin' out of my mouth while trying to aim makes my eyes tear too much from the smoke, screws up my contact lenses, and gives the deer too much advantage!!!! :D:D:D

I have a natural cigarette holder formed by part of the tree that I usually put the cig in until I'm done shooting!!!![cool][up]

Damn, sounds like something from the Uni-bomber, Timothy McVee, &/or the Anarchist's Cookbook!!!

Just add some fertilizer and you can "blow yourself up" into your treestand by stomping your foot and mixing the active ingredients or by rubbing your pants legs together to create the reaction/explosion!!!! [smirk]

Sales/marketing pitch: "...Cuts down on the climbing and physical exertion while getting you in the treestand faster than your buddies to put you on post before the rest - Git them deer that your buddies are pushing out to you while they are still setting up..."!!! :D

Shawnm, if your using carbon clean, then I'm asuming you have a scent-lok suit in which case you shouldn't use any cover scent or wafers because the suit will absorb these. If you don't have a carbon suit and are using the carbon cleaner than your wasting your money. Just use reg scent free det.

I do have scent -lok & I put the scent wafers around me in the tree's .I do spray on my boot's

Outlaw,

not really, but if you really wanted something of the sorts, I am sure I could come up with something.

I am a chemist by trade, and actually work in fragrance technologies. This formula works really well, only thing better is a mixture of mono cupric citrate and mono zinc citrate, but they are not available over the counter, and kind of smell like a hand full of old pennies.

NJDIVERDAN -

I know that "SILDENAFIL CITRATE" is the generic of Viagra.

To hell with cover scent, I'm gonna put my treestand up 38 feet like nightstalker911 and take a pill and "pole vault" into my treestand - no scent problems from that height!!!!:p:D:D:D

Outlaw I just kinda roll the cig to the left corner of my mouth My left eye is closed when I shoot so The couple of times it has happened I had no problem.

woj you were kidding? I use the same method plus the glitter from the stripper that was giving me lap dances from the nigh before actually blinds the deer temporarily so I can get my shot..

Hey Dan,
couple quick questions;

Does the homemade scent elimination spray eventually go bad or expire (you know like a shelf life--does it stop eliminating scent)?

I assume by the ingredients its safe to use on the skin. Although, it might cause minor irritation because of the baking soda right?

THANKS for the recipe Dan, I'll be sure to try it.
Its a heck of a LOT cheaper than buying the spray bottles all the time.

Yes, it would eventually go bad, but I make it 1 quart at a time and use it up over a couple weeks. This is due to the break down of the peroxide H2O2 to H2O and free radical oxygen. This breakdown is accelerated by exposure to the sun.

Safe as spilling peroxide on your skin. There may be some irritation, especially to broken skin.

FYI, it leaves a fine coating of baking soda on everything, (whiteish powder) which is actually nice because the baking soda in its dry form is also a very good odor absorber.

Nobody answered my question about taking a dump in the woods or taking a leak when in your treestand.
Some say that deer are not effected by the odor of human waste some say they are. What do you guys think?

Also with regard to the comments about NJ deer being used to human scent. That is true in many areas in NJ,but not in the less populated areas. In places like DWGNRA or Waywayanda/Newark Watershed they are accustomed to human scent only near houses or other places frequented my the general public. However, deeper in the woods you better concern yourself with scent. In fact the deer in these areas are more wary in general making them more sporting to hunt than suburban deer.

I am not sure, but I think the non carbon scent spray is simply sodium hydroxide. Sodium hydroxide is an industrial chemical used to adjust the Ph level of water. It raises the Ph neutralizing the acid. The main scent that deer pick up from us is the odor of the amino acids in our perspiration. I think the sodium hydroxide neutralizes it.
