I've been waiting 12 business days as of today. Is this merely incompetence or are they that overwhelmed? If the NJSP would stay out of it, the actual NICS system works beautifully and is quite efficient. I personally witnessed this in PA over the weekend. From the time the employee entered the needed info into the system, the approval was done in under 30 seconds. Does anyone know why the NJSP are involved in this process? The NICS system as I understand it, is quite effective and those who shouldn't own a firearm are denied.

I dont believe the SP is involved in it anymore, my understanding is when your NICS info gets faxed it goes to a private company that is doing it now.

Then the process with the private entity is severely flawed. The purpose of NICS, is to do it instantly, or pretty damn close to it.

LOL, I understand. Just needed to vent my frustration. I never thought I'd see this day. I can only imagine what it's going to be like after the Senate votes and Christie rubber stamping it all. I firmly believe that Christie is a Republican only in name and will do zero to uphold the 2nd amendment in the State of NJ.

I heard from my FFL last night and they said the 6th,7th,and 8th was effected by the NICS fax machine problems. Anyone who payed for a gun and NICS check those three days needs there paperwork re-sent.
So on the 26th of March did NICS decide to notify dealers about an issue that went on for 3 days from the 6th to the 8th?

I hate to say this, but the only way this is going to be changed is when local dealers lose enough business here in NJ to PA. Obviously this can't be done with handguns. However, I'm willing to go into PA to pick up a long gun and some ammo without waiting a week plus. It's going to take a concentrated effort by all FFL dealers/ Shops here in NJ to fix this issue. They will only act, when it starts to impact their bottom line by losing transfers, ammo sales, and long gun sales. I know of 2 shops in PA that are already ordering NJ compliant long guns for stock.

I have no idea if the FFL's were contacted, my FFL told me because I call everyday checking the status of the NICS check so I can actually hold something I spent my money on. Imagine if they make background checks mandotory for ammo!?!

"Ok kids you wanna go shooting Saterday.......of next month? I'll pay for the ammo and NICS check this March so by May we can go to the range."

Tomorrow will be day 25, including the day they sent it. If you do not include Sundays and this past Friday it has been 20 days. This upcoming Friday will be a month to the day that I have purchased my gun! Has anyone who purchased a gun on the 6th-8th gotten there NICS check? I know it's not my FFL's fault but if it becomes a month and still no word I think I'm going to have to try and do something about this.

For the third time. I got this right from the state police. THERE IS NO PRIVATE AGENCY DOING THE NICS CHECK. Only the state police is doing the checks. They are the ones sitting on the checks. Since it is now done by FAX there's no need to rush a response.

I said I'm going to do something, didnt mention a "outside company" so since the state police are dragging there feet for everyone's NICS check, and if wait over a month I'm going to contact them and tell them I have a lawyer.

Update: I called my FFL and explained that tomorrow will be a month from when I purchased my gun, still no reaults from NICS!
I'm aware NICS fax was down for 3 days (6th-8th) but my paperwork was re-sent to the NJSP and I know people getting calls after there re-sending of the paperwork and buying guns in the 8th like me. I asked the guy who works there what the deal was and he said he will call the state police and get back to me, a few hours went bye and I got no call back so I called the FFL back, this time another guy answered and said he also purchased a gun on the 8th, there's nothing anyone can do exept wait, he said they have a pile paperwork for over 60 guns waiting to be picked up!
Simething has to be done!! It's been a month since they took my money and I have nothing to show for it, the state police had my cash for the NICS check fee which is BS considering its taking so long, what the hell are we paying for?

If I knew the wait was so long I would have driven to PA to get my guns. I bought 2 guns from a PA dealer and had them sent to a NJ dealer. I paid for my NCIS check on 4/1..I was told a 2 week wait minimum from the FFL...This is a huge steaming pile of horse manure. We pay for a free service and are forced to wait for NJSP to get around to doing their jobs ????

I recently wrote to NJ Second Amendment people about this and other increasingly restrictive gun laws suggesting that this NICS ploy is an attempt to create an ever increasing waiting period and that we have reached a point where we need to sue in federal court on the grounds that the state's firearms laws have the cumulative effect of nullifying the Heller Decision so that, while the US Supreme Court has declared that individuals have the right to possess a firearm, at least in the home, the state of NJ is making a laughing stock of that decision by making it so burdensome and onerous to purchase one that the Second Amendment has become a dead letter. Until someone stands up to the state and sues them for effectively nullifying a federal right NJ will continue to do stuff like this. We have a federal, US guaranteed right to possess firearms but NJ is effectively frustrating that right in the same way that the Southern states nullified the Fifteenth Amendment (voting) by employing closed primaries, literacy tests, and poll taxes. Right now we would have a fair chance of challenging these regulations with the current makeup of the Supreme Court but if one of the conservative justices passes on to the great court in the sky our grand pooh bah of a president will surly appoint another flaming liberal and our chance to sue successfully go down the drain. Unfortunately the Second Amendment people in NJ disagree with my assessment and claim the time is not yet right and we need to further prepare the ground. I believe such a delay is fatal and this NICS delay is just another attempt by the state to ignore the Heller decision and the whole notion of an individual right to keep arms. We cannot expect the NRA to take up the challenge on the state level and our own state gun rights advocates are are unwilling to go to court. Is there no one reading this who has the smarts and gumption to file suit on behalf of those citizens of this state who are having their constitutionally guaranteed rights trampled by an arrogant, out of control, state legislature and law enforcement establishment?
