Got my son his bow today, a bear, he can't pull it all the way back yet, but he tries hard, and the look on his face when I gave it to him with a camo baseball cap that says just like dads I'll remember for the rest of my life.

Thanks for the info on the kids bows.

My oldest daughter started shooting her bow around 6yrs old and the youngest daughter started around 4(she was a natural and shoots way beter than the older one) my son is almost 3 maybe next year for him. Problem is I ALWAYS hear "daddy can I shoot my bow, daddy can I shoot my bow" I always stand right next to them when they shoot.

I have two adult sons. Don't make the mistakes I did.

I started them shooting a toy bow when they were real little about 5. When my older son was 10 I got him a 35# bow to hunt with. My younger sone got the same deal when he was 9. I had them both up in their own treestand at 10 years old. They started hunting with a shot gun about the same time.

The mistake I made was that I took them hunting too much. They burned out on it. My younger son who is now 25 lost interest and does not hunt at all. My older son (27) didn't burn out as bad. He lives in Chicago and hunts pheasants out there. He also hunted deer with me when he was still in college here. He doesn't bow hunt anymore.

I started my oldest last year when he was 5 1/2. He was excited just to hit the target (so was I). This year he has shot but not a whole lot due to a bunch of other stuff going on. He definitly is into it. I want to take him out with me this year for deer. I have a place where we can sit a field the last 1-2 hours of light. I don't think he could handle more than that. I just want to make it fun for him.

I started my boy at 3 with a little stick bow...He is 4 now and shoots a small golden eagle compound that I had to tweak so it fits him... With a youth true fire release...I dont push him with it I just let him shoot it when he wants to
