I see a lot guys asking if there are any mature bucks out there and the answer is yes but not that many.the reason for this is that 90% of bucks taken in NJ are 1 1/2 years old. so my answer is let them walk.if you want to satisfy that itchy trigger finger shoot a doe.Good Luck everyone!

What sux is hearing the close shot after letting them go. I do my best to try. It all reads well for a lot of people here, but the sad truth is that not all NJ hunters use this website. There are also those that just don't care and shoot whatever in their ONE WEEK, or most likely, one day of hunting....

It depends where I'm hunting and if I have my son with me.

I have a few places to hunt that vary. One spot we have a 6pt rule and I will be waiting for a good buck. Two other spots will be developed in the near future and I have no reason to hold out on a good buck. The land will be gone before the deer mature on the property.

The other variable is if I have my 8 yr old son with me. If i have him with me I will likely shoot the first legal buck. He is very excited to go and I would like to get a deer with him by my side.

Will eat my tags again if I dont see a good buck.

Same standards apply no matter the weapon or season. We will spend more time patrolling our properties during the gun season than we will hunting, though..

Driving on state land and tresspassing on a bunch of private ground. Will shoot any/everything but will mainly concentrate on button bucks.
YEAH!!! Now THATS what its al about [up][up][up] I want to join in with your crew next week.

Now really not sure what I'm going to shoot where I will behunting with the gun and or bow but my standards on the bow only areas I hunt probably will not change but who nows it is not like this state has any real quality management either mandated by regulation or by universal etic.

this state should have a point retriction state wide, so the one week hunters cant shoot everything that moves. I hate this week every green horn that thinks he's a hunter is in the woods. killing 1 1/2 olds thinking they accomplished something it's like a race to kill a deer this week. shouldn't be that way. there will be many deer checked in out of zone due to new point restrictions the clubs have to deal with.
