I applied for my FID about 40 days ago and just received a call from the township that they're still waiting for a reference from my work. I had no idea they contacted your employer. Is this right?
If it's a large company then the HR department should be discrete about it. They probably know to ONLY verify employment and give no other information.but I work for a large company and would rather they not know I'm purchasing a hand gun.
i put down my immediate supervisor as the contact. he signed off on it and gave it back to me to fax back to the pd....If it's a large company then the HR department should be discrete about it. They probably know to ONLY verify employment and give no other information.
does the company have a mail room? i would call there and ask what they would do with a letter with no "attn: " on the address. there is usally 1 or 2 people that would handle the mail in a company like that. i would ask about that letter in particular. mention that is was from you town pd..They didn't ask for a contact or anything. I put the company name and main address. I work from home not in the office so I don't even know who they would direct it to or where it would end up. Maybe I should call and ask them to resend it to my supervisor.
[up]They are faxing it to my direct supervisor today and said she can fax it back.
Long ago when I first applied, the Linden Police sent a form letter to my work ... informing them I was applying for the card .... and asking my employer to "provide any information that may be usefull in this background investigation." ... or something like that. They do not indicate as to what the check is for.
Bad advice. If you have a job and lie and say you are unemployed, that is reason enough not to issue (falsification of application). Having a job is NOT a pre-requisite, it is only one more place the local PD can check to ensure you are a stable individual. If you are unemployed, state that as it will not affect your obtaining your FID card. But never lie on the application, it is easy to check if you are employed.Avoid the issue and put down "Unemployed". It has no affect on getting the permit and since at least 10% or more of the US is unemployed (ranging from school, to retired, to disabled, to unemployed)why would anyone question it?
It's a bs question since having a job should not, is not, and can not be a pre-requisite for owning a gun in the US or even in NJ ....

As well as IF they catch it you can be charged and will kill your gun buying in NJ and possibly elsewhere too.Bad advice. If you have a job and lie and say you are unemployed, that is reason enough not to issue (falsification of application).
