It was the white settlers that killed everything not the Indians pal
You guys watched Dances With Wolves too many times. Do you think the Indians had a preservation plan in mind? They killed what ever they needed to eat. Thats all they worried about, using an animal for foods and resources from the rest of the animal. When the numbers were low or hard to find they moved to find more. When the Europeans, or what you natives call "the White man", came they pretty much killed what ever was left.

Maybe not a preservation plan, but they didnt have an extermination plan. The white man did have some extermination plans... for buffalo and for the natives.

In what is California now existed about 80 mutually unintelligable indian languages before the gold rush . within a few decades post gold rush it was all gone. White men put bounties on indians back then. They wanted them killed, they were in the way of the white mans profits. ....... wake up

No shit, Thanks for the history lesson. But I think everyone has read a history book or two. I'm sure we all know what the White man did to the indians when they came here. Only thing that this has to do with hunting is that the white man tried to, and almost succeeded, kill off the buffalo because that was the indians game of choice because of the uses they had with the entire animal.

Back to the point, native Americans had no care if they wiped out a herd as long as the were fed and kept warm. Elk, Buffalo, deer, turkey.....They hunted it all because they had to. They had no concept of management.

I can see by the "wake up" comment and get it. Its a PC thing for most people.

OK,so an Indian family will starve because to properly manage the heard, they can only shoot two Deer a year! They didn't realize it but when game became scarce in an area, they would pack up and move on to hunt another area, leaving that area to repopulate. They knew only to kill what they needed.

Yes,some tribes would drive Buffalo off a cliff but they would use every last piece of that Buffalo to survive.Hides, sinew, meat, brains, bones and horns. There is no comparison between survival and sport Hunting. The Indians did what they needed to do to eat.I quess that they should have just gone to Shop-Rite.
Back to the subject, Paul Schafer and his Schafer Silver Tip Recurve. Never entered anything in the P&Y book............................

Exactly my point Toxo. They hunted to survive and if that meant kill the last buffalo on the entire prairie they did it. That certainly does not put an indian in the greatest hunter category.

LOL I could write anything in here, sarcastic or serious, and there will always be someone to step up to the plate and disagree. Its like My cousin Vinny. Argument as a form of hobby. Pick a side and join the debating team. Damn the drama is thick. I stand by my American native answer. If they still lived solely occupying the country today. There would still be plenty of game.

On a similar note, Check into the beaver population, historically, and today. White man came in, after the beaver resources, and decimated the population on the continent. The loss of the beaver, and his constant dam building and flooding of lowlands, forever changed the entire landscape and ecology of this continent. Things like this changed the landscape and ecology to an even greater degree than even the near extinction of buffalo, or any other large game.
