Last year I shot a fawn in my spot in Annandale with a broken leg when I saw that she was deteriorating after having watched her for several weeks. Then on opening day of this year, I shot another fawn with a severely broken back leg on opening day of bow in the same spot. I have only shot at and taken one other deer from that spot this year, no broken leg and the bones did not appear to be brittle, however, right now there’s Gimpy, my resident three legged mature doe, as well as, a few weeks ago, I spotted another mature deer, didn’t see the head and it was too far out for a shot, limping on a back leg. I have a trail cam pick from last week of another smaller deer with one of the back legs twice the size of the other leg and what looks like sores all up and down the leg and now there’s yet another small, very small fawn bedded by the property owners house with a broken back leg. What the heck is going on?
I’ve spoken with a few friends about this situation to get some ideas and thoughts, but I am still left bewildered as to why there seem to be so many deer with broken legs all seeking refuge in this one area.
There is club property about ¾ of a mile away and maybe they’re being pressured out of it ??? but I hardly ever see anybody hunting there and the roads are 25mph roads. Could this many deer actually be getting hit by cars in the back ends and surviving?
