Transporting NJ Deer Letter

In regard to the letter, "Put deer on birth control" (Jan. 4), I have a different suggestion. As an avid deer hunter in South Jersey, where, because the area is hunted harder and the herd is not as large, I find it amazing that people just want to kill deer to get rid of them. If the deer are going to be netted, why not transport them to places throughout the state where the herd needs help?

It's all about money to the state. To the hunters, it's about the sport that we grew up doing. The people in Princeton Township complain about the deer, but do they stop to think that the deer were there way before their $500,000 houses were put up? All they worry about is themselves.

Farmers complain about damage to their crops by the deer, but when hunters ask for permission to hunt their land, they are rejected. Why complain if they don't want help?

By transporting the deer to other locations, they can save the money they pay White Buffalo. Simply rent nets and let the state transport the deer.

If the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection says that it cares about the hunters, someone should prove it, instead of raising the price of hunting licenses and permits. A $28 permit where sometimes a hunter can take only one deer is a bit much, especially considering the lack of help from the state to bolster decreasing herds in state forests. It seems the state would rather throw away money, which it claims it doesn't have, than save it and help its citizens.
