This is very difficult to do believe it or not. I hate to see animals suffer. This deer should be moved far off the roadway though. No need to do that on the shoulder. But, once the suffering is over a backstrap is a backstrap.

The way I see it, he did that fawn a favor. Can't imagine the pain it would have been in if he tried to move it first.

Yeah, even though we hunt, this is never an enjoyable part of the job. There's a few officers who can't bring themselves to do it, so it's safe to say I've done more than my share. Believe it or not, our county prosecutor's office required the completion of a "Use of Force" report every time you used a firearm to euthanize a wild animal ... no joke.

This deer should be moved far off the roadway though. No need to do that on the shoulder.

Easier said that done.

Once had to move an injured yearling buck off the blacktop travel lanes with a snare pole, before euthanizing him with a shotgun. It was like calf roping in uniform. We stopped traffic in both directions, briefly, for safety reasons.

Seriously? really? This post was about police officers coming to the aid of animals in distress and three posts in XXX feels the need to turn it into something else. If I wanted to start a thread about dispatching animals suffering I would have. WTF! Yes, the cop is protecting and serving the public in this capacity too, but that image without any comment on an uplifting thread is totally classless. And people wonder why this site is the way it is.
