[up]Good post Jeff!
Thanks BC,

Don't get me wrong...I am not trying to promoting hunting in or near fences in any way. I just think there are alot of people that make comments about them without ever once considering all of the aspects involved, or trying to educate themselves on how the fences actually do, or don't affect the deer living in them.

Very simply while a pen by defintion involves a fence....A fence by no means must involve a pen!

almighty ted WRONG again:D but i love his 2nd ammendment stance

its one thing if you are hunting deer on a 100,000 acre fenced in property and if you are hunting a whitetail deer you bought that will be released in a 15acre fenced in property...they are completly different...

100,000 acre vs 15 acre you do the math...

I haven't done a fenced hunt but I agree with woodruff Len - at some point there's a cut off on the acreage as to fair chase. And bait inside a fence seems less fair chase. But it's still hunting.

I have not seriously baited either, I like to pattern the deer on their normal routine when I can. A buddy of mine baited a lot with the old 300 ft rule and all it seemed to do was attract small deer. So I may put out 2 apples or lots of deer scent just to get them a little closer incase they take the further away trail. But that's my choice.

...any way you look at it success as measure by inches has very little to do with the hunters abilities in most of these cases and everything to do with their ability to purchase it....once again, regardless of whether a fence is involved.
If someone with money want to kill (purchase) a 170, he can, 180 he can, 200+ he can. No skill. Just like going to the store and ordering a pound of ham. I just dont understand how anyone can consider a deer (livestock) shot like that, a trophy??!!

Monmouth bucks I couldn't agree more. I really like Ted Nugent but disagree with some of the content of his responses.

That's it in a nutshell right there My issue with "Ted" is it seems to me NOTHING anyhunters does is ever wrong in his eyes. Correct me it I have it wrong.

I dont think that TED is trying to say that cant do any wrong in his eyes.. but he is all for people being allowed tho hunt how ever they want in the legal parameters of the law..

EX. if it is illegal to jack deer at night from the road in NJ he is against it. but if it we legal he would be all for it.
i am not say all of his methods are how i would do it but thats what makes this country the greatest in the world.

He is pro peoples rights!!

Aside from the size of the deer being killed, I hunt a few places where it is 100% a sure thing to get a shot. Places I have been going for 10 yrs and don't remember a day where at least a doe didn't present me with a shot. I know that when I get out of work today that there is a 6 and 2 does that bed every evening by my mail box. and If for some reason they aren't there I know they will be tomorrow. The place i hunt in Pennsy i have sat in my stand eating a sandwich dropping bread down to bedding does who sat there eating it.

I see jealously coming through in this thread. We know that these huge deer shot in enclosures are not eligible for the the P&Y or B&C. The fence places are providing a service and making a buck doing, thats how America was built.

Also aside from the fences, there are many outfitters where its pretty much the same thing. They have been watching an animal its entire life, they know where it sleeps, eats, craps, where it goes when its sad and where it goes when its horney.

The bottom line is that in order to succeed in a fence or outside of it you still have to out wit a wild animal and make a shot. Aside from the size of the antlers, which aren't recognized as trophies anyway there is no difference to me. And beside, a trophy is in the eye of the beholder and you cant eat the antlers.

over and over again the fence isnt what makes the deer or game wild... it is the human hand that changes everything.. you guys shoot stock birds.. catch stocked fish.. these animals are not wild and there are no fences is there anything wrong with that.?.?. it might be to me but not to you..

Some of the most tame and relaxed deer i have seen are on road locked parcels of land in this state that are crawling with deer.. no fences but, but it sure seemed like the deer where "PENNED" in!! is it ethical in your guys eyes to shoot these deer??

100,000 acres in my opinion is fair chase 1000 acres far exceeds a bucks home range which is about 600 acres. I personally wouldn't participate in a high fence whitetail hunt though. That's just me though.
