i always slip a small peice of plastic bag over end of muzzle then peice of tape to hold that shoots just fine ive herd of using small balloon also they may even sell little barrel condoms ofcoarse i will need a large lol i also have old rain coat hood that i lay over scope and breech area in hard rain my encore is stainless steel i just try to keep powder dry never had a misfire or hangfire w this gun

You can buy finger cots at the pharmacy dept at super markets, balloons in the party section or Barrel cots from Cabella's. As far as the breach I just keep it closed and cover it, also if it's that bad I'll be in a blind or under an umbrella or even have used my jet sled to stay dry.

I don't do anything in the woods but keep the barrel pointed down and wipe it off when I get home. It was more important to protected the older number 11 firing muzzleloaders, but no with the new sealed muzzleloaders that use the 209 primers its rare that they misfire from moisture in my opinion.

I made a tapered sheath out of heavy canvas sealed with beeswax that is a few inches longer than my .54 flintlock and completely protects it from the elements. The bottom is open except for the last 12 inches on the muzzle end which I sewed closed. It is 100% waterproof. The rifle slips out quietly and with ease when I need to take a shot. Never had a problem in either snow or rain. For guys that use flintlocks I also use a little Chap-Stik around the lip of the pan to seal it and pure mink-oil to lube a hunting patch, you could fill the barrel with water and it will not effect the powder.

That being said after nearly 30 years of hunting I no longer venture out if it's pouring rain, freezing rain or heavy snow at the start of the hunt, it's not fun or important enough.

Best of luck to everyone and stay safe.

I read about tape on the barrels. Do you have to take it off before shooting? I have read that if snow is in your barrel it can cause a bulge or worse to occur when firing. That's why I am wondering if the tape needs to be removed first.
