They just opened one by me over the summer. I was all excited because the closest dicks is 40 min away and all the mom and pop shop are way over priced with horrible service. I go in opening day, and am utterly disappointed, 2 isles of water sport stuff, and 2 isles of camping. That was it, They even gave me a $10 coupon off $15 or more spent and I didnt use it because I couldnt find anything I even wanted.

Since I have been boycotting dicks for a few years now. A friend of mine who does not boycott dicks tells me that if we the sportsman/ outdoorsman do not support dicks that they may eventually become like the sports authority. Maybe he is right. Hate to see another pro outdoorsman store disappear. May have to call off my dicks boycott.

Several times I've gotten free 5 or 10 dollar gift certs from them - and each time I can never find anything I want to buy. Free money and I still have a hard time spending it. I end up buying mono fishing line most of the time since that's about all they carry anymore that I care about. Why they keep sending me this free money (not coupons, actual gift certs) I have no idea - maybe that's why they are going bankrupt - they can't pay people to shop there! They must have stayed in business due to their other departments - I can only guess they have killer margins on women's sports bras :)

I think some of these sporting good stores fail to realize how much hunters and fisherman contribute to their profits. Stop selling guns and ammo because of the political correctness and you go in the crapper. See ya.
I think there was a statistic that deer general more money than cows.
They were talking about money spent in relation to deer hunting(bows, guns, outfitters, TV shows, hunting accessories) in comparison to cows (beef/leather).

Sports authority started liquidating stores this week. Not all of them are going out of business. Tarhunt- Kohl's is only closing 16 stores out of an almost 1200 stores. Stores that sold winter clothing took a beating this year with the mild winter. Remember they were calling for an extremely cold winter so retailers loaded up and did not get a good sell through. Kohls also eliminated 3 executive positions. Sports Authority is actually eliminating entire markets where they are not competitive. They feel they can go lean and come out of the bankruptcy down the road that way.

I thought msnbc has been saying everything is great ..economy is great..people are working...people are spending $$ ..smdh

I think everyone is missing the real problem here.. Everyone bashes places that don't sell firearms, or ammo. Or have stopped selling firearms and ammo. I get it.. it's frustrating as hell, I agree. But why do you think places like Sports Authority, Kmart, etc.. stop selling guns and ammo? Fear of LAW SUITS! Look at the bullshit going on is this country.. gun manufactures getting sued because of shootings committed with their guns (smith and wesson in the early 2000's) stores and gun shops getting sued if the gun was bought their.. etc. theres something called the Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act , passed in I think 2005, that's suppose to protect gun manufactures, and gun shops but it's not enough. There have been a few suits since it was passed. Hillary already said if she's elected, she's going to repeal it, and put gun stores and makers back on the hook. Places like Sports Authority or Dicks are in existence for ONE reason.. to make money. I don't blame them one bit for not wanting to deal with the bullshit.. The real problem lies with this country of ours that has been taken over by liberals and socialists.

Have you been in a sports authority in the last 10 years? Back during December when me and the gf were doing some last minute Christmas shopping and couldn't find what we wanted at any of the other stores so swung into a local sports authority. It was a weekend around mid day and I counted 3 cars in the parking lot. I said it then to the gf that I didn't know how they stay in business. Wouldn't matter how great or bad the economy is, you can't stay in business if no one comes into your stores. Up the road at Dicks it's jammed packed every day

Sports Authority Inc. on Wednesday filed for chapter 11 bankruptcy protection and said it would close 140 stores, as the big-box chain struggles with a shift to online shopping.

The retailer, which has about 450 stores, could shut down in the coming weeks unless it finds a buyer for the rest of its business.

It's been a long time coming. They've been dying a slow death for years already.

I agree lawsuits may be part of it but, near me, I'm sure the sports authority doesn't sell guns mainly because it doesn't fit into the "Princeton" way of life. The Dicks across the street sells guns but, the "Lodge", as they call it is pathetic. No one knows anything and the selection bites the wick. They have it walled off so the Princeton people can't see the guns from anywhere in the store. I can go across the bridge into pennsy in the Oxford Valley area which, is far from out in the sticks and they have 3 times as much hunting stuff and some kids with at least a basic knowledge of what they are selling. Sports Authority tried to target a certain group of people I think, and it backfired in their face. Jmo

I was in a Sports Authority once years ago. I thought they had a good inventory of physical sports stuff. I thought they were a little over the top in price. They had some basic hunting and fishing goods, but nothing I couldn't get elsewhere at a better price. Going out of business and into bankruptcy is a sign of the times.

They have been going down hill for the last 10 years, they will not be missed.
