What happens after the scabs on a shed bucks head dry up and heal?

They are pedicles....they dont really heal or dry up. They are always there, its just that some are more visible than others.

But you are right about hair, sometimes they are hard to see because hair obscures them from view.

 

I'm getting alot of pics of shed bucks, but as time goes by it's getting harder to tell the bucks from does. When will new antler growth be noticable? May, June.

I dont know what happens to the scaps i would probably think that they just heal like anything else. But horns i think usually grow depending on the deer. They will all start around end of april maybe sooner or later but it also depends on what the deer eats. the more protein the sooner they will show. the less protein the later they will show.

The buttons on a button buck are the start of their pedicles, out of which antlers will grow the following year[up]

 

so if u have a button buck with huge pedicles then more likely he will be a nice buck i am gona look for the pic i am talking about now if i recall they were very big for a button
