Coming home Sat. morning after my fishing outing with Kris I counted A LOT of dead deer. On Rt. 80 eastbound, from where 80 and the 280 split is up until Fairfield I counted 7 dead deer in that stretch alone. Seems to me like that's an awful lot of dead deer for this time of year, and especially in that area. I know there are deer in the area, but almost seems like a population explosion of some sorts. BTW two of the 7 deer were definately bucks. I also saw one on the west bound side this morning on the way to work.

Next to November, May has the next highest number of deer road kills. This is due to does looking for a place to birth their fawns and juvenille bucks (1 year olds) being kicked out of their home range from adult does (nature's way of preventing in-breeding).

Yep what Stealth said...plus super mild winter so more deer around (in some areas). I only found 1 or 2 deer taken down by yotes this past winter...year before I think I found 8. Of course I may just suck at finding them, but it gives me hope there might be a few more deer out there this year! :)

I saw 'em all over the interstate highways, too.

I-80 all the way out to I-81 in Hazelton, and then another 60 miles south on I-81.

Does and young bucks, all fresh kills.

Dragthor ...... what do you do in Blakeslee? Do you fish those trout streams around there?

I'd bet there aren't higher road kills than normal, higher than normal sightings are probably because the state might have stopped picking them up already and leaving to the municipalities.
Probably gonna be a common sight in the future.
