Shot them on the ground and in a tree through out life. What right does any one have to say what's right or not? Is this because you don't do it one way or the other? I don't have to do it now but that's not to say I didn't do it in the past. I shot a bird on the ground in Pa. many moons ago the first time I took my Golden out and she was 1 yo. The bird wouldn't fly and it was far enough ahead of the dog that is was ok with shooting the bird for her. The dog learned a valuable lesson on how to kill the bird and feth em up. She got good and torn up to and herd it from my wife when I got home.It was her first bird she was on and I didn't want it to go by.

Shot a chucker in a tree that flew up 75 or 100 feet in the tree and would have been a lost bird other wise so I took it because I paid for it.

There are circumstances and you have to use uour own judgement on what your going to do. Who cares.

I have a hunting dog and shoot flushed birds that aren't pointed too. I shoot any thing she would run back to me as well such as a rabbit or fox and have.

Oh my God you break all the pointing dog rules. Yep that's what killers do, not pretty boys. My dog has plenty of stlye when she does everything right and is locked up but she don't point every bird because the birds do run. There's plenty of variables in every situation its certainly not Black and white most of the time. Not in my world anyway.

Some days are good and some are bad and you got to take the good with the bad.:)

Lets get down to the real deal here! Is it sporting? Nope but lets face it there are circumstances. I had a rooster fly up in a giant tree after the point and I shot and missed. The birds on the edge of our property in this tall oak and unless it flys down back into our property you might as well say good bye bird. I seen it go into the tree but then I couldn't see it because the bird was so high up.

You shoot squirrels out of trees with shot guns? What's so sporting about that other than to eat them? You shoot ***** too. The chase is the sport not the kill with the *****. Why would you shoot a bird in a tree maybe to eat. If a person don't have a dog and they see one in a tree I have no problem with them shooting it. Kids are allowed usally to shoot birds in a tree so what about that. Now we want to play high and mighty? That makes all the sence in the world to me.[hihi][hihi][hihi]
