I consider myself a pretty decent mechanic on all types of engines, but this one has me stumped. I have an old, probably late 70's Simplicity 7116. 16hp, briggs. It has been sitting in a barn for probably 10+ years. New starter, rebuilt the carb with all new parts, needle valve, seat, etc. because it was flooding out bad. Now it seems like its not getting fuel. Starts right up on choke, runs for 30 seconds and dies. I also put a new battery, starter, air filter, belts on it. I have taken that carb apart probably six times, tried adjusting the float, air/fuel screw, but same results. It did run good and cut for about 3 minutes once, but then back to the same thing. I have the carb soaking in gas now, figuring there has to be some blockage somewhere. But its real clean and I can blow air through every orfice.
If somebody can come by tomorrow and get it running right I can give you a full day of hunting, during the rut if you want on some real prime land here.
Thanks, pulling my hair out! I love these old machines, hydraulic lift, PTO, hydrostatic...I'm stumped and that's rare.
