Brings back the memories. I built my share of stands over the years. I never built one in a straight tree. The stand looks good, but I would take hammers advice and tie it in.

use a climber

Easier said than done for a lot of reasons. One of them being hunting a good spot rather than a good tree. An example of this right here in jerseybowhunter's picture. There is not a tree in it where you can use a climber.

 

Would never get in to that looks dangerous. Cabelas and sportsmans guide both have stands that wont break the bank. Sportsmands guide has a combo special a 20 foot climbing stick and a hang on stand for $69.

 

i would get rid of the bottom stand..

some shitbag may stand on it , take a chain saw & remove your hard work.

 

He might show up to hunt from his stand one day and find someone stole his tree.

 

nice..i built a deck in a tree myself last summer..i thru bolted the tree and rachet straped it also i used kendorf for the angle braces.. lag bolted everything in stainless..used 2 14ft 6x6's for front legs mounted to 2 5 gallon bucket cement footings and used a camoed extension ladder to get in it. its stuck in a huge pine tree and its actually hard to see the monstrosity if you dont know its there....i had a buck rub my camera off one of the legs this year....when we had the hurricane this year and the october snow storm almost all the trees in the area had damage except for the deck in the tree..there is no company building a big cozy stand that is heavy duty like the one we can build ourselves..good luck and be safe..

 

briarpatch...where u scouting in mendham,i saw the same 55 gal type stand in a tree.i wonder how they sat in it or just stood up all the time.

You fall out of that, you will be lag bolted together

I have some alluminum angle braces that I want to use, but I am afraid to use steel bolts with it, becasue two different metals may be a problem.
Anyone have any suggestions?
Will alluminum potentially become brital in severe cold?

sorry but wrong! the tree that the stand is in looks to be very climbable. but climbers arent the answer to every spot. maybe to close to bedding area or just to far to cary one in. i know i wind up staying in bed sometimes cause of the thought of dealing with my climber.

c'mon guys that is hardly high! it looks like a little over twenty feet. at the same time a box blind doesnt need to be that high. it looks like a death trap to me and the thought of getting into that piece would also keep me in bed!

can you even bowhunt out of that coffin?

Looks are deceiving. I see a very thick tree that no climber would fit around. Besides there is an old platform I'd have to cut out as I climb...[smoke]

i guess its a cool stand if its a natural travel lane and on private ground.i woulda put the stand lower if i was just goona gunhunt outta it.as many trees are in this area he could get away with being lower
