:D Is it true, where can it be confirmed that we will be allowed to hunt sunday in new jersey? I hear the law passed last night.

The Sunday bow-hunting bill has passed the Senate. It still needs to make it through the assembly, and then Corslime has to sign it. Once signed into law, the new law will have an "effective date." That date can be immediate, or some date in teh future. Given the state of things, I would expect that it would not be effective until deer season 2009.

I actually hope it doesn't go through, Sorry guy's but I just am not for sunday hunting. When this goes through and you can hunt private land on sunday's and now people will be able to double their hunt time the price to lease land for hunting is going to go through the roof

MTH or Bacs, is there a time frame as to when the bill would make it to assembly and also when Corslime would sign it? Also, are there time constraints that they need to abide by to make sure these bills are put through in a timely fashion? I'm still learning the entire process[up]

Why are you going to say this? I would think the farmers and land owners would be happy about this if more deer got shot[confusedagain]

Do we realy think the gov. will sign this bill????[smirk]

Hope he does sign and realise it can help the state some financially as well with differant business's.:D

oh well, it would have been nice....
Deer are not bears and there IS a good chance he would sign it or if there is enough time left after the assembly votes on it just allow it to become law.

HOW CAN YOU HELP?

As was stated this bill is about Bow hunting for deer on private land and WMA's

Call your assembly representitive and TELL THEM that this bill is about private land and WMA's and that a land owner if they choose can keep people from hunting their land on Sunday if they choose even if the bill passes.
Tell them this bill will change NOTHING as far as PARKS and state forests goes.

The Humane society of the United States primariily but also several animal rights and radical environmental groups are perpetuating thefalsehoods that this bill will have ALL HUNTING and of HUNTING IN PARKS.
In speaking to my representitives they said LETTERS they have been receiving on this bill are running any place from 10 to 1 to 25 to 1 AGAINST these bills!
The reason people are against these bills is they do not want hunting in parks on Sunday!!!
Write a letter explaining to your legislator about this bill and let them know that the bill is ONLY ABOUT LAND HUNTERS PAYFOR AND NOT ABOUT PARKS do not thinkfor a second that your legislator took the time or had the time to read the bill before they had to vote on it.
Do not assume for a second that this bill was explained to them by anyone able to tell the truth.

EACH of you on this BB NEEDS to both write a letter and make a call. I will post the bill next.

CURRENT VERSION OF TEXT

Introduced Pending Technical Review by Legislative Counsel

An Act concerning the hunting of deer, and amending R.S.23:4-24.

Be It Enacted by the Senate and General Assembly of the State of New Jersey:

1. R.S.23:4-24 is amended to read as follows:

23:4-24. a. No person shall hunt with a hound or with firearms or weapons of any kind, or carry a gun in the woods or fields or on the waters on Sunday, under a penalty of [$20.00] $50 for each offense; except that this section shall not apply to :

(1) any person hunting raccoon between midnight on Saturday and sunrise on Sunday during the season prescribed in [section] R.S.23:4-1 [of this Title or to];

(2) a person possessing a valid and proper rifle permit licensed to trap fur-bearing animals pursuant to the provisions of R.S.23:3-1 using a .22 caliber rifle and .22 caliber short rimfire cartridges to humanely dispatch legally trapped animals; or

(3) a person using a bow and arrow to hunt deer during any bow and arrow hunting season for deer prescribed by the State Fish and Game Code, provided the person possesses a valid bow and arrow license, or a valid "All Around Sportsman License" if applicable, issued by the division, abides by all applicable provisions of the code, and is hunting on a State wildlife management area or on private property.

b. This section shall not prevent farm land owners, lessees actually occupying or farming the land, members of their immediate families, or their farm employees from hunting and destroying at any time and in any manner crows, woodchuck, fox and vermin on that land.

(cf: P.L.1996, c.97, s.1)

2. This act shall take effect immediately.

STATEMENT

This bill would authorize deer hunting with bow and arrow on Sundays during any bow and arrow hunting season for deer prescribed by the State Fish and Game Code, provided the hunting is on a State wildlife management area or on private property. This bill also raises from $20 to $50 the penalty for a violation of the no-Sunday hunting prohibition.

Current law provides that there is a statutory prohibition against hunting on Sundays. This bill would amend current law to
authorize the hunting of deer with bow and arrow on Sundays during any bow and arrow hunting season for deer prescribed by the State Fish and Game Code, provided the person hunting possesses a valid bow and arrow license, or a valid "All Around Sportsman License" if applicable, issued by the Division of Fish and Wildlife, and abides by all applicable provisions of the State Fish and Game Code.

Getting the matter before the assembly is up to them. From what I understand, the bill will be presented to the Agricultural committee next week. If the identical bil is passed out of committee, it's just a matter of teh speaker scheduling it for a full vote. But even if it gets that far, carslime still has to sign it to becaome law. There is no specified time frame-it's all a matter of whether they want it to proceed. If it doesn't get passed it just dies again, and we start back at square 1 again. If you are keeping track, we have been down this road 5 times already, and each time the bill just died. Having the bill make it through the senate was the farthest we have ever come. As Jakesbeard sais-call your assembly reps and demand action on this bill!

Forgive my ignorance, if it passes everything and the last to sign is Corzine, he can't refuse it can he? Wouldnt he have to veto it and have justification? I mean if it was voted on by the senate and committees, etc. Can he just refuse it and then it dies in his lap? Can't be right...

Maybe the insurance companies will pressure him to sign to eliminate more deer.

Private lease propertys go up usally each year anyway and has nothing to do with Sunday hunting or when the lease term has expired.[smirk]

If the Sunday hunting causes leased propertys to increase it's because the person paying has allowed it.[smirk]

Actually...No he doesn't. If the bill passes both houses and he doesn't act (sign or veto) within 45 days, it becomes law.
