Personally I cover it. Like sombody said, why turn non-hunters into antis? If I see a non covered, hell yeah I will give a thumbs up, same if its covered. I admit when I see one covered, I'm dying to see it and I'll try and catch the guy at a light!

But, I think we need to act as professionals, and like it or not, the typical uneducated to hunting, non-hunter...still not an anti...can get a knot in their panties when their 5 year olds get upset by an uncovered deer, gut in view, eyes open and toungue hanging out. They may not become anti-hunting, but may become anti-hunter. Like we need more enemies or new laws?

Check your ego at the door and cover it up for the good of the sport and to deprive the antis of ammo. I know it is perfectly legal, but your not educating any non-hunter about nature and wildlife management by rubbing it in their noses from your bumper. Be smart, be courteous and professional. Hell I know its a lot to ask as we have so many a-holes stealing stands and cams from each other. But taking a minute to cover it up shows that you care about the future of the sport. All it takes is some over caffined soccer mom with a attitude to push for a new law to cover deer...then its onto outlawing deer carriers and more. They will call it Bambi's law or some other cutie name. Its not worth it.

I'd rather fly under the radar and avoid flack then banging my chest and end up shooting myself in the foot.

Yes its legal. But like you said yourself, common courtesy is a two way street.

You can win a single battle but lose the war. The smart one chooses their battles, they do not leave ammo on the battlefield for the enemie to collect and stockpile.

I guess in some way your right, nobody ever called General Custer and the 7th Calvery pussies. But nobody ever said that battle was a good idea, just an arrogant one.

Hell, I'm all for a good battle anyday, and I puke when I think of the damage the politically correct idea has done to this country. I completely understand your position and agree. But it is what it is and life don't give out do-overs.

Fight smart, not in anger. I learned when I was younger in bar brawls that a chest beating drunk twice my size is an easy battle as long as I kept my eye on the target and plan ahead of time instead of being drawn into the bullsht bravado. While he was ranting and getting more worked up by my silence and smile, I was looking at my suroundings, both the 2x4 against the building...and my escape routes. Sometimes you choose the 2x4, sometimes you walk...or run. One time I ran...to my truck and then he ran![rofl]

Point is, I don't like that we have to cover up. But pick your battles and win the war. Represent hunters as good guys, managers of wildlife and tdoorsmen in the American tradition. Promote the sport, realize this is not 1920, there are more pussy kids being raised by spoiled baby boomers then ever in history. We are outnumbered like Custer. Fight smart my friend.

Points well taken. If I was a kid I would dig seeing that deer to the max! But these days most kids I see are weak, because their parents are weak Obamanites.

I don't cover my deer after dark. I dunno guys, some real good points made. NJ is not Montana, we get so screwed already hunting wise. I just believe in picking my battles, in NJ there is a seriously twisted societal quilt where old school is constantly banging heads with the new school.

I want real bad to say to them all eff-off! But I don't see the advantage. I see both sides and I choose to manipulate them rather then enrage them.

Interesting post. I live in Hunterdon Cty, no cover is common. You guys almost have me thinking because I have that same pissed off attitude about people taking freedoms away. Shit. Maybe I'm going soft, or just getting wiser. Or just old and in the way.[hihi]
