pitch a tent and sleep out on site or disguise your self as a deer or bear.... bear is better and scare the daylights out of them. LOL

Welcome to NJ or have you been here that long? To know it is what it is. I kinda gave up hunting NJ due to what goes on in the woods.

How do you guys keep people from stealing your feeders and trail cams? I would like to put a feeder on public land but I don't want it to get stolen and have my money wasted.
Nothing you can do will stop someone from taking your stuff if they want it. Public land is simply a gamble. You can of course use the lock boxes and cable locks but it will only deter some. The ones that go out there looking for stuff will get it off the tree one way or another. Wish you the best and hope you have better luck than most.

I use a quality camera lock box, which is lag bolted to the tree and locked with a master lock crescent lock. I then wrap a masterlock python cable around the tree and through the box and camera cable holes. It's been extremely effective for me but nothing is 100%. If someone wants it bad enough, they'll figure out a way to steal it. As for the feeder, not much you can do for theft prevention on those. Instead , I just use a PVC feeder when hunting on public land. They're easy to setup and if stolen, only cost a few dollars to replace.

I use the exact same setup and you would be surprised at how easy someone with a little knowledge can get through it. Had one camera stolen this year and actually found out who it was and got my stuff back. I asked how he got everything off and I was shocked how easy it was. But it certainly is better than not locking it up

Yup. There's always some scumbag who's not content with just walking by and absolutely has to take it. I had one stolen earlier this year but with a cheap lock box that was easily pried open. I've since switched box companies and have also found out who took mine. Needless to say, not all of his stuff has made it through the season.

Wait... you found the scum that stole your stuff, and you had a conversation with him in which he told you exactly how he did it? Was he charged for theft? Prison time? Inquiring minds want to know the story there.

I just bought my first trail cam - so this is a timely thread for me. I bought one on sale - less than 70, so if its stolen, its not the end of the world (though I will be p**sed off if it does get stolen). So that's the first thing - don't spend what you will lose sleep over if it gets stolen. Yeah, it'll suck if I lose 70 dollars, but it would really suck if I lost 150.

But - how about this - has anyone tried to mount their trail cam up high on a tree? Say, go up in a tree climber about 10 to 15 feet, and mount the camera angling it down about 30 degrees (I guess you can put a wedge behind it to angle it down?) Obviously, if someone wants your stuff bad enough, they will get it - but this would mean they'd either have to have equipment to climb the tree with them, or they'd have to leave and come back with said equipment, to just get at your camera (and if its locked, they have to fiddle with the security locks while up in the tree). All of this assumes they even see your camera up high in the first place. So, I dunno - seems like that would help. Anyone try that?
