This is a 2 part post so any information would be greatly appriciated!

1. I have had 2 deer processed by a highly reviewed butcher and both times I have not received backstraps. I am a little unfamiliar about the butchering process to know if I should be mad by this or what.

2. Any butcher recommendations around the somerset area?

Thanks in advance!

I would be mad if you specifically asked and the butcher didn't do what you asked. Sometimes unless you state that you want back straps and tenderloins whole, he may just filet them into steaks or ground or whatever else you asked for.

i was just going to say are you sure you dont have them and they are labled steak or something, not too many leave them whole. they usually make 2 or 3 stakes out of each back strap, some butterfly them

I selected minute steaks for hinde 1. Roast for hinde 2, chops for loins and then hot dogs and deer roll.

I got hot dogs, deer roll, minute steaks and roasts.

I will double check everything in the freezer when I get home to make sure nothing is miss labled.

Something seemed off also because I didn't get my ear tag back like I did the first time.

I use elys all the time and have never got my back straps back whole. He either cuts them into steaks or what he calls chops which are like little steaks. I really don't think he would screw ya. Could have been a mistake. I always wonder how I got back so much meat from such a little deer! If you call them they will explain it to ya and if there was a mistake I'm sure they will take care of ya

Dwight Ely has so much business over there he doesn't need to screw 1 customer over some bavkstraps. The man gets alot of business because
They are honest
They are clean
And there products are the best in 3 states...

That being said if you learn to do your own you never have to worry about who did what to your meat.

Thank you for the input that had nothing to do with the post. I actually was thinking it maybe my ignorance on the subject that may have been at fault hence the post in the first place. I hadn't made any accusations nor did I mention any names until someone asked.

Sorry it got your knickers in a twist.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA there not! Wasnt answering you specifically but a lot of hunters think they are due back more meat than they really are. Somehow they think a 60lb doe should yield 60lb of meat. See it all the time. Most think there deer is bigger than what it really is. Good estimate is always just under half. If your deer weighs 80 you should be in the 38lb range. you have to understand you ordered a number of products for one deer. That meat has to come from somewhere.
